Paws and Claws Humane Society, Inc.
Our Featured Pet...We are in DESPERATE NEED OF KITTEN/CAT FOSTERS AND TEMPORARY FOSTERS FOR OUR DOGS AND PUPPIES!! Please contact us asap if you can help with the many kittens, cats, dogs and puppies that fill the shelter. They all just need a safe place to stay for a little while until they can be adopted! We are also in desperate need of people willing to temporarily foster a dog that has found rescue but doesn't have transport yet to where it needs to go, sometimes just a night or a few days to give it a safe haven while it waits for rescue! Sometimes life or death for the cats and dogs that enter the shelter depends on whether they have a safe place to go while we line up rescue and transport. We have LOTS of adoptable cats, kittens, dogs and puppies that end up in the shelter everyday and many adoptable animals, pure breds and all shapes and sizes! Come visit us today for your next pet and save a life!
In order to decrease the euthansia rate at our shelter, we began marketing our dogs in Colorado and teamed up with volunteers in the Denver, Colorado Springs, Vail and Boulder areas to help us market and find homes and fosters for our homeless dogs. Its been a great success with Paws and Claws achieving a 94% save rate in 2011 for all dogs. That's why you see some animals that say their location is "Littleton, CO" and others that say "Artesia, NM".
The Colorado branch of Paws and Claws is a foster based group as we do not have a facility. Please email us today if you are interested in adopting ANY of the animals we have listed and we will set up a meeting with you at a time and place that is convenient for you. Each animal posted on petfinder will have a location. Those animals that have "Littleton, CO" by their names are in Colorado and ready for a home or foster in Colorado. If the animal has "Artesia, NM" by its name, it means the dog or cat is still at the shelter in Artesia, NM BUT we can still get it up to you in CO. We do weekly transports to Colorado, Albuquerque/Santa Fe and even Las Cruces, NM and can usually get a dog or cat up to you in about a week or so. Unsure about making the commitment to an animal you haven't been able to meet, consider doing a foster to adopt which allows you to do a trial run to make sure the dog is the right fit for you.
DONATIONS CAN BE MADE VIA PAYPAL ABOVE OR MAILING A CHECK PAYABLE TO "PAWS AND CLAWS" AND MAILED TO PO BOX 807, ARTESIA, NM 88210. All donations are tax deductible. Paws and Claws has a lot of operating expenses to save the over 800 animals it rescue and saves each year!! This year, with the help of petfinder, we are on track to rescue even more animals than ever (94% save rate for dogs and 68% save rate for cats) but that means more food, shots, transports, crates, leashes and more and we need your help!! Please email us at email@example.com to become a monthly sponsor or considering making a tax deductible donation to help us help the homeless animals here!

The adoption fee varies depending on how much money we have had to put into the dog to get it ready for adoption. The adoption fee helps to offset the cost (but seldom ever covers) the spay or neuter, all shots, microchip, heartworm test (if over 6 months of age) and worming; however, if you live in Artesia or the animal is too young to get fixed, we charge a $25 adoption fee which includes DHPPL, bordatella and worming.
