WHO WE ARE:

Bridging the Worlds’ primary purpose is animal cruelty prevention. We focus our efforts on rescuing dogs from abuse, neglect, and abandonment, and nurse them back to health and well being. We give them veterinary care as needed, and excellent nutrition. We give them human kindness, love and affection to displace any torment they previously endured. We then get them adopted into safe and loving homes. A few of the animals will never be adopted due to the impact of previous injuries or health problems. We provide them with permanent sanctuary for life.

Our sanctuary has fenced wide open spaces - no cages or chains. The dogs can run, play, and socialize with one another. Most of them live among us - free to snooze indoors on hot days and cold nights, welcome to take refuge from Summer or Winter storms in our house and offices, or tucked into their own houses in their own yards, as they choose. Dogs who have become hyper sensitive due to severe trauma are offered their own private areas to help heal their spirit.

We are a no-kill shelter, which means we don’t euthanize healthy animals as a means of population control. We are part of the area wide no-kill coalition of shelters and rescue organizations. We advocate the importance of spay/neuter for pets as a means of population control. All of our animals are spayed/neutered when they reach the appropriate age. Many instances of abuse and abandonment are a direct result of an over population problem. We encourage people to seek the humane alternative.

The name “Bridging the Worlds” was chosen to reflect our intent to foster better communication - communication that can help a desperately injured animal to return to health - communication that can lead a desperate person out of the troubled mindset that would cause them to abuse a fellow creature - a bridge between people, and a bridge between people and animals that leads to greater humane-ness.

Raymond's Gift

Raymond had a diaphragmatic hernia. X-rays showed that part of his stomach and intestines were in his chest cavity, so he could not process food and was slowly starving to death. Following an extensive veterinary exam, this one-year-old Lab mix faced two hard choices: quiet euthanasia or risky, costly extreme surgery. The odds of survival were 70/30, the cost would be over $1000. The emergency medical fund was depleted and the practical decision seemed to be choice #1, which created heavy sadness, but only made sense.

What happened next is not for everyone. If you don't like mystery and mysticism, then read no further. If you'd like to hear what Raymond had to "say," please do read on.
