If you truly believe in our mission, we need your help. A foster home is the greatest gift you can give to a rescued dog. Not everyone can be a foster. Not everyone knows a potential foster. But everyone who loves animals can take five minutes of their day to think about whether they have the circumstances and ability to foster a dog or whether they know a co-worker, family member or friend that does.

Our Featured Pet is....Tally Ho
Tally is a 4 yr old female pit mix who really loves to be with people. She is good with passive male dogs, but is truly happy when watching TV with her humans. She is not good with cats or livestock but would be a great addition to a family who wants a loyal companion to watch over them. She would also make a great running partner! WE NEED HELP TO PAY FOR HIS SURGERY: Munchkin is a sweet cat who is the ultimate survivor. He was found in Chimayo with two broken front legs. His rescuer wasn't ready to have him euthanized; Munchkin had fought too hard to survive. We were called for help and advanced the money for the surgery which was performed in Gallup. His two front legs are healing and he is getting around. We have raised about $400 towards his $1300 surgery. If you can help, please click on the PayPal button above or the JustGive button below. If you would like your donation to go to Second Chance, all you need to do is specify “Second Chance Animal Rescue” on your paper pledge form in the “Choose Who to Give to” section, OR if you are giving through United Way's website (www.uwcnm.org) on the Step One: Invest your Contribution page, scroll to the bottom and choose “Other Agency”, and fill in the agency information Thank you!!

We are not a shelter; we are a network of fosters. All of our adoptable pets are in foster homes. We have adoption events every so often on Saturdays. Watch our home page for the dates!
We do not adopt straight from the store and are not first come first served, rather we take applications and select for the most compatible home for the particular dog after performing a home visit. Our goal is that each adoption is permanent and that requires a good match between the pet and its new family.
But you need not wait for our adoption events, if you are interested in one of our great dogs and cats, please email us to we will arrange for you to meet them. We'll send you an application right away! We'd love to schedule a time for you to meet them. The adoption fee covers spay/neuter, microchip and age-appropriate vaccines.
Surrending your animal.....
Unfortunately, SCAR is having to temporarily freeze our intake of animals as we are over-loaded with foster dogs.
A note about Courtesy Listings:
We want to help those who need to find homes for their pets due to unforeseen tragedy or circumstances outside of their (or their pet’s) control. We will list dogs and cats as a "courtesy listing' for people trying to find homes for their pets as well as suggest other alternatives than taking your pet to an animal shelter.
We ask for a $25.00 donation for this service. Please remember, WE CAN’T TAKE ANY MORE ANIMALS into our group as we do not have a facility. We do want to help, especially those who are willing to help themselves, and their pet.
