Our Adoptable Pet List

Happy Tails: Some of our animals who have found their forever homes

Our Featured Pets are...Gracie and Rocky

Gracie

Gracie is 3 year old Chow Chow whose eyes were surgically removed as a puppy (we're not sure why). Gracie has been living in a wonderful foster home getting "rehabbed" for almost a year now and is doing great; She is now ready for her forever home. Gracie is housetrained, LOVES to take long walks, have her belly rubbed, do yoga, and ride in cars. Gracie would do best as an only dog and with older children. She has a wonderful disposition and personality. You can read more about Gracie's story by clicking above on our Adoptable Pets List link and look up "Gracie-Blind" or call Susan at 505-306-7347

Rocky

Rocky is a very handsome male American Pitbull Terrier who is around 7 years old. Rocky was rescued from a sad situation but has been in a wonderful foster home for several months now and has turned out to be the perfect dog! Rocky is housetrained, walks great on a leash, loves to ride in cars and hang out with you while watching a football game (or anything else!). He is very sweet and plays well with other dogs. You can read more about Rocky's story by clicking above on our Adoptable Pets List link and look up "Rocky" or call Susan at 505 - 306-7347

Special Request - SOPHIE'S FUND

Please help us pay for Sophie's surgery by clicking the Chip In button below. We are a 501(c)3 and your donation is tax deductible. Sophie is a very sweet cocker spaniel who was found and turned into animal services. (This is a picture of how we found her) She needs "cherry eye" surgery and so Second Chance Animal Rescue Inc. got her out of animal services so we could have her eye surgery done and so she could find her forever home. The vet detected a heart murmur and after an echocardiagram was done, the heart surgeon advised that her only chance at living past the age of 2 1/2 years old was to have the PDA heart murmur surgically repaired. Second Chance has paid for her surgery and she is on the mend! She made it through the heart surgery (she is the oldest dog the surgeon has ever performed this surgery on as most dogs die as puppies from this type of heart problem). She is getting her energy back and will soon be strong enough to fix her eye problem too! Sophie is very grateful for her second chance! She is in a wonderful foster home that wants to adopt her and she now has the chance to live happily ever after. Any amount that can be contributed will be greatly appreciated! Second Chance will be able to continue its work saving the overlooked animals who deserve a chance to be happy! Her amount to fix her heart murmur is $2800. We still need to fix her eyes. To the Friends of Second Chance Animal Rescue,
We hope you had a great Thanksgiving. We want to thank you all for your support this past year. Whether you adopted one of our great dogs or cats and gave them a loving home; donated to help the work our group does throughout the year; through generous money donations, donations to our yard sales, pet food collections or a donation of your time and energy helping at our adoption and fundraising events......we could not do it without all of you! We helped so many needy dogs and cats this year and we will continue to help the animals who get overlooked and forgotten, for they so deserve a second chance! Please check out our website at www.secondchancenm.petfinder.com to see the great pets we currently have awaiting their forever homes. If you are not in a position now to adopt another pet, please forward this email on to your friends and family so they can find their new forever family member. If you can make a donation through our Paypal button on the homepage, we will put every penny towards the costs of saving the animals! We are a 501c3 non-profit and donations are tax-deductible. Thank you for your continued support!

There are many ways to help support the animals of Second Chance Animal Rescue - here are just a few:

1) Adopt one of our wonderful pets!

2) Become a foster parent

3) Make a donation - this can be done monetarily via Paypal

or by mailing a check to P.O. Box 15194, Rio Rancho, NM 87174

4) We also collect used (un-activated) cell phones as a continuous fundraiser. If you would like a collection box for your business or office to help out our animals, please email us at secondchancenm@yahoo.com for more info. We turn the used cell phones in to a cell phone company and receive money for them. We use all of the money we raise to pay for vet expenses for our animals.

5) Gift cards to pet stores such as Petco are a great help as many of our animals have special needs diets.

and see below for a few more internet options that will help the animals of SCAR.

Interesting in Adopting?

We are not a shelter; we are a network of fosters. All of our adoptable pets are in foster homes. We have adoption events every couple of weeks on Saturdays at the Petco on San Mateo at Academy or Village Mercantile in Corrales. Watch our home page for the dates! We do not adopt straight from the store and are not first come first served, rather we take applications and select for the most compatible home for the particular dog after performing a home visit. Our goal is that each adoption is permanent and that requires a good match between the pet and its new family.

But you need not wait for our adoption events, if you are interested in one of our great dogs and cats, please email us to we will arrange for you to meet them. We'll send you an application right away! We'd love to schedule a time for you to meet them. The adoption fee covers spay/neuter, microchip and age-appropriate vaccines.

Surrending your animal.....

Unfortunately, SCAR is having to temporarily freeze our intake of animals as we are over-loaded with fosters, most who need special care which requires people, time, resources and money.

A note about Courtesy Listings: We want to help those who need to find homes for their pets due to unforeseen tragedy or circumstances outside of their (or their pet’s) control. We will list dogs and cats as a "courtesy listing' for people trying to find homes for their pets as well as suggest other alternatives than taking your pet to an animal shelter.

We ask for a $25.00 donation for this service. Please contact Susan at 306-7347 or sren7101@msn.com if you need help. Please remember, WE CAN’T TAKE ANY MORE ANIMALS into our group as we do not have a facility. Remember, we do want to help, especially those who are willing to help themselves, and their pet.

Who We Are....

We are a New Mexico non-profit corporation dedicated to giving pets a second chance at a happy life. We are all volunteer and we exist on donations. We desperately need monetary donations or donations of food, bedding, treats, toys, etc. Please email us at secondchancenm@yahoo.com if you would like to donate OR mail a donation to Second Chance Animal Rescue, Inc., P.O. Box 15194, Rio Rancho, NM 87174.

OUR PRECIOUS SPECIAL NEEDS

PLEASE SEE THE FOLLOWING LIST OF OUR SPECIAL CAUSES - to find out more about each animal, click on our "Adoptable Pets List" at the top of the page and read their stories

Find a forever home for Tess.

– Tess has been in foster care for two years now - Tess is a great dog, she just needs somebody to give her more than 2 days to settle in and be given a chance to be a part of the family.

Place Vegas.

– Vegas was abused by a man when she was a puppy. The foster home she is in now has many “hard to place dogs” so Vegas does not get the individual work she needs – Vegas needs to be w/somebody who a) will work with her and NOT give up when it gets hard or b) adopt into a female only home.

Finding a loving home for Chance.

Chance is related to Vegas (siblings). Sweet dog, needs a little work, is such a lover - he just shows horribly at our adoption events.

Finding a forever home for Tally Ho.

- Tally's only fault? Apparently the fact she was born a pit bull.

Giving Rocky a happy ending.

After much pleading and outcries from the public, we rescued Rocky out of Albuquerque Eastside AC. Rocky will need rehab and a special foster home as a result of years of neglect and abuse. This will require a special foster home and additional training, for which we will need to raise funds.

Find a forever home for Blinky.

- Blinky is a very sweet, slightly vision impaired (nightblindness) 8 year old pittie that nobody wanted anymore....... Wanna help? Second Chance Animal Rescue Inc. P.O. Box 15194 Rio Rancho, NM 87174 Email: secondchancenm@yahoo.com 505-306-7347 or 505-463-5885
