All of our pets may be adopted in and out of state. We welcome all interested people to contact us.
For long distance and out of state adoptions, the adopter is required to make the necessary travel arrangements for their new pet. For more information, email Sally.

Friends of the Shelter is a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of shelter animals in north central New Mexico.

Adopting a Friend
Our organization works closely with the Los Alamos Animal Shelter, and adopting a friend from the shelter is rewarding and easy!
The shelter charges a $25 adoption fee for pets that come into the shelter already-neutered, otherwise the fee is $60 to assist in covering sterilization costs.
Come Visit Us!
The Los Alamos Animal Shelter is located at 246 East Road in Los Alamos, and the
phone number is 505-662-8179. The Shelter hours are 10:00 am to
1:00 pm, Monday through Sundays.
The Shelter provides care for animals for 10 days and vaccinations
before making them available for adoption. Some pets are in
foster homes, and information about these animals is available from the shelter.
All dogs are given a DHLPP shot when they come into
the shelter and cats are checked for feline leukemia.
Any animal that appears to have a medical
problem is taken to a local vet for evaluation.
Directions from Santa Fe (west 502):
Take the Los Alamos exit
Once in town, the road splits into a Y, keep to your left.
You will pass a group of stores on your right including Blockbuster Video and Baskin Robbins.
Following the stores, the first stop light is Knecht Street. Take a left at this light.
After turning onto Knecht street, you will head straight to the end of the road and the Animal Shelter is on your left hand side.
