PLEASE NOT THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION REGARDING HEARTWORM::::
HW is not an instant infestation it takes time to grow. A mosquito that carries the larva of the HW must bite a dog. The dog then depending on size of the dog, location of bite and activity level of the dog. Carries that larva from the skin to the blood stream to the heart. where it must grow to adult size to release its larva. That released larva is what comes up on a test. This can take anywhere from 4 to 6 months to happen. If the dog is test from day one of the bite to as long as day 179 it can come up as negative and then day 180 turn positive. We test our dogs when they are altered or prior to transport. We then start them on preventatives. if they are not kept on preventatives for 6 months it is possible for them to become positive. PLEASE REALIZE ALL WE OR A VET CAN DO IS TELL WHAT THEY ARE SHOWING AT TIME OF TESTING. WE CAN NOT KNOW WHEN OR IF A DOG IS BITTEN BY AN INFECTED MOSQUITO.
PREVENTATIVES WITHOUT A PRESCRIPTION SO YOU ARE READY WHEN YOUR NEW FRIEND COMES HOME
WE ADOPT OUT OUR PUPS AS FAMILY MEMBERS NOT YARD DOGS, GUARD DOGS, BABY SITTERS OR UNKNOWN GIFTS to other adults.
To apply fill out here: online application
If you happen to find what looks like your best friend in the entire world just click on their "online application" link in their bio and fill it out. Please note that we never promise a dogs house training. If marked house trained it is what has been reported by a foster parent or owner in their home. This does not mean you will not need to be prepared to follow up with the house training when a dog/puppy enters your home. Breeds, ages, temperament, health are all to the best of our knowledge. We can not know anymore than a vet tells us. We get this information from the people or shelter we get the animal from or from our own best guesses based on experience (breed, age) or vets information and tests.
You will be asked a lot of information which our adoption committee will verify. They will call your references and see what they have to say. If all is wonderful you will then be given a chance to meet your friend and its foster parent so together you can decide if it is a match. You will then get an email from Traveling Paws with the news, good or bad we let you know. If approved you will get to pick up your new friend, do a contract and pay your adoption fee which not only goes to pay for your friends care but for other friends before and after them. THE ADOPTION FEE IS A DONATION AND NOT REFUNDABLE. RULES AND NEEDS WILL BE DISCUSSED WITH TRAVELING PAWS. THANK YOU FOR THINKING ADOPTION!
Special needs/ super seniors and courtesy posted dogs/puppies adoption fee will be discussed on an individual basis. Adult mixed breeds $200 to$250 (dogs trained through the prison program can run at pure breed adoption fee regardless of breed/mix), pure breed/designer dogs/puppies $275 to $300, mixed puppies are $250 - $275 (under 6 months) (We try to alter prior to adoption vet/age allowing). If they are not altered at time of adoption you must sign a return contract saying you will bring puppy to location specified on a day set by the rescue for alter. The alter is included in the adoption fee if already altered. If you choose to use your own vet for alters it is at your cost. Our vet has a substantial discount. If anyone is not microchipped at time of adoption adopters must have this done within 60 days of adoption and proof/number sent to rescue.
