Who We Are...

The Ocean County Animal Facilities (North and South) house dogs and cats and maintain a 24-hour receiving service for stray animals that are brought in by Municipal Animal Control Officers. Features of the shelters include indoor/outdoor runs, cages, isolation areas and surgical facilities. The shelters are operated by the Ocean County Health Department:

Seven Days a Week (Closed Holidays)

1:00 PM to 4:00 PM - Wednesday evening until 6:30

Services...

The Ocean County Animal Facilities harbor stray dogs and cats for a minimum of seven days, State Regulation, in the hope that their owners can be located. After seven days the animals are offered for adoption. The Facilities also accept unwanted pets for a surrender fee of $45 (cats) and $65 (dogs).

Adoption Fees...

Dogs: $60
Cats: $55

All of the animals adopted are examined by the Facility's veterinarian and receive a rabies shot (if old enough), a distemper shot, a worming/heartworm screening (for dogs) and, in some cases, spayed or neutered (if old enough). We also participate in the State Animal Control Program which allows spaying/neutering at participating veterinarians for $20 when state funding is available. This will enable you to have your personal vet spay/neuter your new Facility pet. In the event that the animal has not been spayed/neutered prior to adoption, a refund of $20 will be given if proof of spay/neuter is provided within 6 months of adoption.

Spay/Neuter Clinics...

The Volunteer Auxiliary for Animal Shelters, Inc. in association with the Ocean County Health Dept. and Jersey Shore Animal Center, is offering spay/neuter clinics. The cost will be only $30 for cats and $45 for dogs. There are income restrictions, so call our facility at 732-657-8086 for details and appointments. Appointments will be taken no sooner than 5 weeks in advance of the clinic. The dates for 2008 are 3/31, 5/5, 7/28 and 9/8.

Kuranda Dog Beds...

We have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our boarding facilities because they are so good for our dogs. We still don't have enough for all of our kennels. If you would like to donate a bed so another dog can sleep in proper comfort, please click here.

Volunteers...

The Volunteer Auxiliary For Animal Shelters, Inc. is a non-profit organization run solely by dedicated volunteers committed to helping shelter animals. We work with the Ocean County Animal Facility (North) located in Jackson, NJ. We help by evaluating the animals and assisting with adoptions. A large part of our adoptions are done at off site locations, staffed solely by volunteers. These locations have enabled us to place many Facility animals in loving homes. Off Site Adoptions...

Route 70 Flea Market, Lakewood. Saturdays and Sundays (weather permitting) from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM PetSmart Home Depot Shopping Center, Route 70, Lakewood Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM We also have occasional off site days at: Stafford Vet. Hospital , Manahawkin; My Pet's Place, Route 9, Howell and Rick's Saddle Shop, Cream Ridge

From The South Via The Garden State Parkway Take the Garden State Parkway North to Exit 83. Go North on Route 9 to the first light (Route 571). Make a left turn onto Route 571. Go to the 6th traffic light (Intersection of 571 and 547), Ridgeway Liquors is on the corner. Make Right onto Route 547. Go about 1 mile, we are on the right side. From The North Via The Garden State Parkway Take the Garden State Parkway South to Exit 88. Take Route 70 past the Route 9 overpass plus 2 traffic lights (Exxon Station on right). Make right turn onto Route 527. Go past the Dover Pound to light. Make left onto Route 547. It's the 3rd driveway after going over the railroad tracks.
