One friendly girl, Aristocat loves affection! Being petted is her favorite pastime and she will happily give head bumps to receive a massage. Aristocat has a beautiful, shiny black coat with white accents on her face, chest and paws. She is eagerly awaiting a new home where she will be loved forever.
The Bloomfield Animal Shelter/John A Bukowski Shelter for Animals is located in Bloomfield, NJ. Managed by the Township of Bloomfield, the shelter's animal control serves the cities of Bloomfield, Glen Ridge and Caldwell.
The Bloomfield Animal Shelter has many types of dogs and cats available for adoption, including purebred and mixed breeds. Many come to us as strays, so even though we don't have a great deal of insight about their previous lives, we treat every animal as an individual, regardless of breed or background. Through daily social interactions and training, the shelter staff and volunteers spend time getting to know each dog and cat's distinctive personality, enabling us to make the best possible match for each adopter and animal. Bloomfield Animal Shelter promises to work with you in our fullest capacity, to provide our experience and guidance when helping you select a new companion for your family.
Many volunteers are using Gentle Leaders to walk the dogs in residence. These face harnesses (much like a horse bridle) help control where the dogs are looking and allow people to walk dogs that normally pull with much ease. These headcollars are not muzzles--the dogs still have the ability to fully open their mouths--and it takes a couple walks before the dogs are fully comfortable with them. The town of Bloomfield manages the shelter and new volunteers are always being welcomed. Stop by to fill out an application and we'll contact you about the next volunteer orientation. Donations are always accepted!

Mandy's Pet Grooming offers a free first-visit grooming to any dog adopted from the shelter. The groomer also genrously donates grooming services to needy animals in the Bukowski Shelter, and for this we must say a million thank you's!!!! Mandy's is located at 90 Union Ave., Nutley. 973-284-1661.

Dog and cat adoptions are $100. Purebreds are $175. All applicants must fill out a pre-adoption form that will be evaluated by the adoption committee who will verify references and approve the adoption (we reserve the right to deny any application). Home visits are required and are performed by trained shelter volunteers or an Animal Control Officer. No animal is eligible for adoption until it is spayed or neutered by the shelter but applications will be accepted.
The shelter is located on Bukowski Place off of Hoover Ave next to the Garden Apts. and Glendale Cemetery. The shelter is right off of GSP North exit 150.
