Bordentown City Cats was started in March of 2003 to address the outside cat problem in the City of Bordentown. We began by trapping, neutering and returning (TNR) the feral cats to their colonies, where they were fed and monitored by our volunteers or by their colony caregivers. We then became involved in rescuing stray and abandoned cats, as well as trapping and socializing feral kittens so they could become adoptable, loving pets. We also help people who have no cars with transporting their pet cats to and from veterinarians, and can assist low-income families by providing access to low-cost spay/neuters. Our goal is to control and reduce the number of cats living outside on the streets.
Bordentown City Cats fosters all adoptable cats and kittens in private homes, which gives them the loving attention they deserve. We welcome volunteers over the age of 18 who can foster, transport cats to and from veterinarians, assist in trapping, help with our annual fundraisers (an indoor flea market at the Carslake Community Center, a city-wide spring Street Fair, and the fall Cranberry Festival), and other capacities. For example, if you can sew, crochet or knit, would you like to make cat bedding or toys? How about baking cakes, cupcakes, and cookies for fundraising? We can offer you a rewarding experience as a volunteer.
Adopting a friend
Applicants are screened to ensure that there will be few problems, if any, when a cat or kitten is adopted. If you are renting, we require that you provide verification that you are allowed to have a cat. We also require a reference, preferrably from a veterinarian, as proof that you are a responsible pet owner. We do not condone declawing.
