This month, check out our precious Echo. He's been with us for over a year, after being rescued from a horrible hoarding situation. All of the others Echo was rescued with have been adopted, so it's only Echo who is still on the search for his forever home. Echo lives in an exercise pen, is litterbox trained and neutered. His foster mom says he's full of life. loves to play, and gets along with cats, calm dogs, and all people. Open up your home to Echo and make his dreams come true!
Congratulations to Blossom's Babies!
After surviving against all odds, all 5 of Blossom's babies have found amazing "forever" homes! They came into our rescue after their mom, Blossom, was found hopping around in a nearby town. Soon after she got to the shelter, Blossom gave birth to 10 babies. Due to the poor health she was in, Blossom couldn't take care if her babies and they were bottle fed for 8 long weeks. The five surviving babies are all adorable and sweet, and each have joined amazing homes! Congratulations to Nicholas (now Sumo), Maurice, Gingerbread Boy, Angelina (now Ally), and Miss Holly!
Our New Hug-a-Bunny Video!
Hot off the press! We have a new amazing video that captures the adorable faces of some of our Hug-a-Bunnies! Most of the rabbits featured in this video already have permanent loving homes. You may recognize Apple (originally found taped inside a shoebox), Bug (who has head tilt) or Button (who is partially blind). The only rabbit in this video who is still on the search for a loving home is Sprinkles, who is a wonderful girl! She's the English Spot in the video (with the HUGE bowl of greens and on the bed) and is still looking for a wonderful family to come along and scoop her up! A heartfelt thank you to Hug-a-Bunny volunteer Jessica who has donated her time to help our bunnies on many occasions, but nothing could be more special than this video, which captures the lighthearted family vision of Hug-a-Bunny!

Who We Are
Hug-a-Bunny Rabbit Rescue, Inc. is a small 501 (c)(3) organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and re-homes rabbits in need. We started out by helping other volunteer organizations, but quickly realized that there were limited resources for rabbits in our area. Hug-a-Bunny Rabbit Rescue, Inc. does extensive volunteer work associated with our local animal shelter. Most of our rescued rabbits come from this location.
Hug-a-Bunny was created through true ambition to try to make a difference and save a few lives, but we quickly surpassed that goal! We now have a working network with organizations in our area and miles away to best support our rabbits. Each rabbit that comes into our care is treated like our own until they find their "forever home!"
We aim to educate the public about rabbits. We've found that many people don't know what amazing companions rabbits can be. Most are not aware that rabbits are easily litterbox-trained and crave attention and love. All Hug-a-Bunnies are litterbox-trained while they are in foster care!
All rabbits in our care are spayed/neutered when they enter our rescue. All medical expenses come straight from our pockets and from kind donations. Hug-a-Bunny runs solely on volunteers for the care of these animals. Since we don't have a physical location, all of our rabbits live in foster care across Northern NJ and NY.
Adopting a Hug-a-Bunny
The rabbits in our care are wonderful creatures (of course we're partial) and we would be willing to elaborate on any of their qualities if you feel that you need more information! There is something special and unique about each of our rabbits. Please take your time and read about each of the Hug-a-Bunnies, even if you aren't quite ready to adopt. You never know, a Hug-a-Bunny might steal your heart, as they have done to ours! And yes, all of our rabbits ARE huggable!
We will adopt to indoor homes in the tri-state area. Please take a look at our rabbits to see if any of them are the right match for you! If you don't see your match, email us and we can tell you about rabbits in our care that are not yet posted online. There is a $50 adoption donation, which allows us to rescue and spay/neuter more rabbits! This fee offsets the money we spend rescuing these rabbits.
If you are interested in any of the rabbits on our site, please email hugabunny@gmail.com for more information and an adoption application. Please note that all Hug-a-Bunnies are adopted to indoor homes only. Once we recieve an inquiry, will get back to you quickly!
Please keep in mind that we may have several people interested in the same rabbit at one time, and adoptions are based on the most fitting home for a bun, as we always have their best interest in mind. We also have other rabbits that aren't currently listed on Petfinder since they aren't yet spayed or neutered or aren't yet in a Hug-a-Bunny foster home.
Please consider helping out our rescued rabbits by making a generous donation through Paypal. Any donation helps, even $1, $5, or $10! It costs $170 for each spay surgery and $130 for each neuter. We also have regular vet visits and daily living costs. Please donate so we can continue helping abandoned rabbits! You do NOT need to sign up for a Paypal account to donate. Thank you from the Hug-a-Bunnies!

Farewell to Our Furry Friends
It is with great sadness, that we report the passing of our dear bunny friend, Sage. Although Sage was with us for 16 months without ever finding his "forever home," we was deeply loved by his foster mom, Frannie. Sage was one of our long-time Hug-a-Bunnies and always brought a smile to our faces. He was rescued at 7 years old and lived out his life "retirement style." Sage passed away on September 29th. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew or met him, but most of all by his foster mom, who gave him a life better than most.
We also want to report the death of sweet Theodore. After living in a bad situation for 4 years, he was eventually dumped at a shelter with teeth that were inches long. Poor Theodore never knew love, yet was the sweetest guy around. After having some dental work done, Theodore was living it up and was beginning to enjoy a normal life. He was only with us for a few short weeks and unfortunately passed away on October 1st, only a few days after Sage. Theodore will be deeply missed.
Although it is very sad that neither of these amazing rabbits had a permanent home of their own, they were both deeply loved by their foster parents and they were safe. Each of them was treated as if they were our own. Sadly, they will never get to enjoy a life where they are the one and only rabbit. However, we know they were loved and spoiled during their days and months with us.
Happy 2nd Anniversary, Hug-a-Bunny!!!!
Can you believe it's been 2 years since our very first adoption? On November 10th, 2006 our beautiful Lily joined her permanent home with her new mom Rian. That was our very first Hug-a-Bunny adoption and gave us hope that there were good things in store for us! Since that date just 2 years ago, we have made a lot of progress! We currently had our 126th adoption, which shows how hard we've been working! Many amazing rabbits have joined permanent, loving homes. We have helped to spay and neuter over a hundred rabbits and have rescued an amazing amount of rabbits out of harm's way. For example, we took 44 rabbits out of our local county shelter JUST in 2007! That, plus all of the personal surrenders, other shelters, and rabbits we've helped right off the streets, and we've done a great deal!
With all of the success we've had so far, we have many people to thank. We want to send a special thank you to all of our foster homes, who have been with us since the very beginning. This includes Tammie (and Donna), Denise, Diana, Lisa, Tayo, the staff of Westwood Pets, and Filomena (and Quilts & Such) for all of your work and dedication to our rabbits. We simply couldn't do it without all of your help! We also have to give a special thanks to Dr. Cheryl Welch and her staff at Franklin Lakes Animal Hospital for the generosity and compassion you've shown our rescued rabbit. Finally, thanks to all of the people who have opened up their homes to one (or more) of our rescued rabbits. THANK YOU!

Foster Homes Needed!
Hug-a-Bunny Rabbit Rescue, Inc. is constantly in need of foster homes! If you think you can open up your home to a rabbit, for a long or short-term placement, please let us know. Foster parents are given a cage (unless you have one) and all of the essential supplies needed to foster one of our rabbits. We provide any never-ending support to you as you provide a temporary home for our rabbits. Hug-a-Bunny is responsible for any and all medical care of the rabbits in our rescue. We will accept foster homes in NJ and NY!
Since we don't have a physical location, our ability to rescue rabbits depends on the foster homes we have. You can personally help to save a rabbit in need! Imagine how gratifying it will feel when you personally play a role in the rescue of a rabbit!
Thank you to our foster homes....we simply couldn't do it without you!

A Great Abode!
One of our very favorite bunny cages is made by Leith Petwerks. They are wonderful 1, 2, and 3-story cages that our rabbits absolutely love! We would love to outfit all of our rabbits in these wonderful creations. If you'd like to make a donation towards one of them, simply mail us a check with Leith Petwerks Abode written on it, and we'll put it towards our big purchase. Our bunnies thank you!
Check out the bunny abodes and other great products at www.leithpetwerks.com
Due to our extensive work with local and county animal shelters, as well as our ongoing surrender intake, we are running at our capacity. While surrendering a rabbit to us is still possible, you may have a wait of at least 30 to 60 days before we will have room for your rabbit. We will consider emergency situations on a case-by-case basis. If you’re willing to “foster” your own rabbit for us while they look for a home, we can at least post them on our Petfinder site for some more exposure!
However, we urge you to do everything you can to make your rabbit work within it’s current home. It is very stressful on rabbits to have to leave everything they’ve known and enter into a world of an uncertain future. We can try our best to help you modify your current situation. Sometimes something simple can make a big difference, like litterbox training your rabbit! Fortunately, with Hug-a-Bunny Rabbit Rescue, Inc., we provide each and every rabbit a loving environment until they find their permanent home. However, we don’t have enough room to take in every rabbit and we can do our best to assist you in any way possible.
If you would like to join our waiting list, we’ll ask you to fill out our Surrender Form and include and all information about your rabbit. This includes being able to provide a current photo of your animal and a description of its personality, age, and health. Please email us at hugabunny@gmail.com for more details.
The Egg Harbor Rescue
After being scouted out for many years, a backyard breeder in Egg Harbor Township, NJ was caught mistreating and neglecting 57 rabbits in his backyard. The rabbits were all living in dumpster-like creations, with crowded conditions and with little to no food or water. Many news stations were covering this on the news and all of the rabbits were seized from the location. Luckily, many rescues and shelters stepped forward to save these rabbits, and none of them had to be put to sleep. We were happy to welcome Bryce, Sundance and Forest (a bonded pair), and Echo as part of the Hug-a-Bunny family. Sadly, Forest passed away shortly after coming into our rescue and Sundance is now all alone. On a happier note, our Bryce was adopted by the wonderful Julia! Bryce was the center of many news productions because the only had one eye, one ear, and half of a nose left- which all happened during his time in Egg Harbor. Bryce is now living a life of luxury and is very loved! Sundance and Echo are still waiting patiently for their forever homes.
The BIG Winter Rescue!!
In December of 2007, Hug-a-Bunny was alerted to a situation in a farm about an hour away. Many animals had been abandoned and were living in the elements in the freezing cold. The farm found placements for all of the animals, but desperately needed help with the rabbits. We agreed to help and took in all 8 of the rabbits from this farm! This involved catching them in 3 different rescue efforts, bringing them indoors, and helping them settle in as indoor bunnies! These are all domestic animals who were dumped into a very bad situation and we were happy to welcome all of them into the rescue! Ella, Sterling, Madison, Butch, our babies Peace and Love, and last members Jolly and Jingle all came from this location! They were all checked by vets, spayed and neutered, and are now litterbox trained. Most are even in new homes enjoying their lives! Congratulations to Ella, Jolly and Jingle, Peace, Sterling, Butch, and finally Madison on their loving, forever homes! Madison joined her home this December (2008) and that marked exactly a year from when they had been rescued. We're happy to announce that all of the rabbits from this big rescue effort are safe and in amazing homes!
An Update on Adopted Hug-a-Bunnies
You may be wondering what happens to a Hug-a-Bunny Alumni after they leave our foster program and enter their new home. We often get update emails, telling us how amazing our rabbits are and how they are JUST as we described them! Ella (adopted in March 2008) is definitely no exception! Her new mom, Stephanie, found all of the things Ella loves best, which includes sitting under her favorite table and playing with toys! It's always nice to hear updates on how amazing our former Hug-a-Bunnies are doing...and even better to SEE them! Stephanie was nice enough to send over this video from Ella. You can't help but crack up as you watch her! Congratulations again Ella on your wonderful home!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVH9zGQV5Tg
Ella isn't the only former Hug-a-Bunny-turned-star! Our Rocky (adopted in December 2007) is also starring in "Bunny Times: Rocky Rocks and Rolls" on Broadway! Take a look and Rocky will stun you with his amazing binkies (rabbit happy dance)! He's shaking away in his amazing 3-story condo with his new woman Angel. I don't think you've ever seen such amazing dance moves...or a bunny who was any happier! He really is "Crazy in Love!"

Vonnegut and Zelda (formerly Jasper I and Macadamia) have also been having a wonderful time. Although they were adopted separately (Vonnegut-3/4/07 & Zelda-10/27/07) once they were bonded in their new home, the pair became inseparable! That's a true Hug-a-Bunny success story! Their parents, Kat and Chris, graciously sent over a few clips of the bunnies doing binkies (or happy jumps), some while reading! These are truly talented rabbits!
