EBONY -- 2007...Our sweet little Ebony....She was a brave little girl that was found in an abandoned building infested with fleas and ticks. A fly had landed on her ear and layed eggs hatching into dozens of larvae, which were later removed. But that isn't the end of her story. As time went on and she was cleaned up, we noticed that something didn't seem right with her. Within days, she lost usage of her hind legs and her front paws became hyperextended. After months of investigating what the cause of these problems and going to well over 10 different vet clinics, we finally received an answer from University of Pennsylvania. You see, our little Ebony was diagnosed with neuromuscular atrophy. A muscular disease that would never leave her. Over time she would lose more control of her muscles and eventually, her internal organs. We took her to specialists and even attempted accupuncture. In the end, we were told that there was no hope for her and we were advised to put her down. We simply would not accept that as a definitive solution, and tried for months to bring her back. She could not walk, but boy did she love her life. Her body started to give way and in the end, we knew it would be only a matter of time before her internal organs would give up on her. In a last ditch effort of hope, we took her to NC State. Again, we were told there was nothing we could do. In the end, we lost our sweet little Ebony. She is very special to us and will never be forgotten. Ebony, we will always love you and hope you are finally able to be the dog you always wanted to be...running and playing.
A donation fee to adopt one of our dogs is required. The donation fee helps us cover the cost to properly vet our animals, provide a high quality diet, transporting costs and provide a safe and healthy environment during the time these dogs are being fostered.
