The Vernon The Vernon Township Animal Shelter is a part of the municipality and maintained by the Animal Control employees. Animal Control is responsible for rabies control, capture of sick or injured animals, confinement of lost pets, quarantines, dog bites, and adoptions in Vernon Township, NJ. The Township also maintains a shelter, conducts dog licensing and rabies clinics, and responds to complaints and enforcement of animal ordinances within the Township. It is a twenty-four hour emergency department, witha telephone call made through the Vernon Township Police Dept. for animal bites, injured, sick or stray animals, as well as bats found within the living area of the house.
The Vernon Animal Welfare League is an independent, non-profit organization that was formed in 1975. It is NOT affiliated with the Township or its shelter. However, it provides spaying and neutering assistance to Vernon Township cats and dogs. It conducts an annual fundraiser for this purpose.
Adoptions at our shelter are $30.00 for dogs and $10.00 for cats.

The Vernon Township Animal Control and Vernon Township Animal Shelter are located in its own building off Church Street, adjacent to both the Recycling Center and DPW complex. You may visit our animals Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm or on Saturday from 9:00am to 12:00pm. You may also call us at (973) 764-7751.

The Vernon Township Animal Welfare League does not have a physical address of its own, but if you are interested in helping fulfill its purpose of controling the unwanted pet population, you may join them at their meetings which are held at the Dorothy Henry Memorial Library the first Thursday of every month at 7:00 p.m. New members are welcome.
