Communities thoroughout the United States are confronted with finding solutions for the large numbers of homeless pets. As a tourist and retirement destination, CMC faces additional unique challenges. In short, there are many adoptable animals and relatively few homes to absorb them. The Cape May County Animal Shelter will seek to ensure the humane treatment of all animals within the county and to foster a spirit of cooperation between the various organizations working on behalf of animals.
To address these circumstances the CMCAS will initiate a three pronged plan. First, CMCAS will support extensive spay/neuter programs to reduce the number of homeless animals. Second, CMCAS will institute aggressive adoption policies. Third, CMCAS will implement educational programs for responsible pet guardianship.
The Cape May County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center held its ribbon cutting ceremony on July 16, 2004 and Grand Opening on August 1, 2004. It promises to serve Cape May County residents kindly and energetically.
