The Press of Atlantic City recently reported the accomplishments by CMCAS, including having one of the lowest euthanasia rates among shelters in the region. We take great pride in our reputation for saving and nurturing the precious lives of homeless animals. We encourage you to read all about it, and spread the word to others. MISSION

The Cape May County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center (CMCAS) was officially established at its ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 16, 2004. At its Grand Opening on August 1, 2004, it promised to serve all Cape May County residents by kindly and energetically helpng homeless pets.

Communities throughout the United States are confronted with finding solutions for the large numbers of homeless pets. As a tourist and retirement destination, Cape May County faces additional unique challenges. In short, there are many adoptable animals and relatively few homes to absorb them. The Cape May County Animal Shelter seeks to ensure the humane treatment of all animals within the county and to foster a spirit of cooperation among the various organizations working on behalf of animals.

To address these circumstances, the CMCAS follows a three- pronged plan. First, CMCAS supports extensive spay/neuter programs to reduce the number of homeless animals. Second, CMCAS institutes aggressive adoption policies. Third, CMCAS implements educational programs for teaching responsible pet guardianship.
