Who We Are

The New Jersey Rabbit Society is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to domestic rabbit advocacy and the education of the public regarding all subjects related to rabbits as companion animals. NJ HRS is a registered New Jersey charity. We take rabbits from shelters, neuter/spay, litter-train, socialize and find the best possible homes. We give workshops on rabbit care, have appeared on cable pet programs, been featured in articles in the New York Times, the Home News and the Asbury Park Press. We can provide rabbit talks to children's groups and schools and are here to help you with any and all of your questions. We love to make new rabbit friends and invite you to join our chapter. You can find further information by going to www.rabbit.org, click on Chapters and then New Jersey or simply go to www.njrabbits.com. There you will find membership info and our on-line newsletter. We do not adopt to homes where rabbits will be kept outside and would be happy to explain to you why...give us a call for house rabbit info.

Adopting a Friend

Call us for information and pre-screening by phone at 732-583-0278. Leave a message and the best time to call you back. All of our volunteers work at people jobs full-time but we will get back to you. The adoption donation is $85.00 for a single rabbit and a contract must be signed. Adoption donations are applied to our veterinary/neuter/spay fund. Neuters and spays can cost as much as $450, so adopting an already neutered or spayed rabbit is the wise choice! We recommend that you read up on rabbits...get the House Rabbit Handbook by Marinell Harriman at Barnes and Noble...and do some homework. Get educated and make sure that a rabbit is the right animal for your home....and we will help make sure that your home is the right one for the rabbit.

Volunteering and Donations

We would love to talk to you if you are interested in getting involved by helping at events, with rabbit transport, with fostering, helping at events, helping with fundraising, whatever you could do to help. Call us or write! Donations may be made out to New Jersey House Rabbit Society and sent to PO Box 259, Matawan, New Jersey and are thankfully accepted. Membership is $15.00 per year.
