'Now that I'm all home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed,
I'd like to open my baggage lest I forget,
There is so much to carry, so much to regret.
Hmmmmm, Yes, there it is right on the top,
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame,
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave,
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough; for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage? Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things and take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage, To never repack?
I pray that you do; I'm so tired, you see.
But I do come with baggage; will you still want me?

Who We Are

-The Old Bridge Animal Shelter is a non-profit, township-operated kennel located in the Municipal Complex in Old Bridge, NJ. The shelter is operated as a non-kill kennel, rather than as a pound since no adoptable animal is ever put to sleep. Our shelter consists of 18 indoor, outdoor dog runs (some are being used for cats and kittens at this time). The outside portions however, are covered to provide maximum protection for the animals. We have multiple habitats for our feline population.

The kennel is operated by two animal control officers under the direction of the Old Bridge Police Department. Our staff and volunteers work extremely hard to ensure that the proper animals go to the best possible home.

We provide programs on pet care and responsibility to groups and organizations by appointment at no charge. If you are in need of assistance, please contact us.

When Adopting

Please consider adopting an adult cat as they need homes too! We have many wonderful adult cats that would love to share a home and be loved! The best thing about an adult cat is they are usually litter box trained for you!
Adult dogs are equally as joyous and wonderful as any puppy, with alot more ease..... Dogs are usually housetrained and are temperament tested, so you know exactly what your getting, versus a puppy, whose personally will grow and change right along with its looks. In addition, most of our adult animals have medical work done (blood testing for FIV/FeLv and heartworm in dogs, shots, ect.).They have the beginnings of training, such as sit and down.

If you are interested in one of our younger furry friends, please contact us and we can tell you all we know about that specific furry friend. If that particular friend isn't for you we can hopefully direct you to a better suited friend, and make your adopting experience amazing and rewarding.

Please remember the Old Bridge Animal Shelter reserves the right to refuse any adoption.

When adopting a dog, PLEASE make sure you bring a heavy leash and a good collar. IF you need any of these things, you can pick them up at any local pet store.

When adopting a cat, PLEASE bring a carrier with a metal door... Plastic locks and doors are a serious risk for your cat... They dont always latch properly, so remember for your cats safety, please bring a metal door carrier
