HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Samera was adopted today by a wonderful lady. We will so miss you, Sammie, but we are so so thrilled for you!
Have a long and happy life!
This is Samera. Samera's family had to relocate across the country. Unfortunately, they could not take her with them because their new apartment owner didn't allow pets.
Sammie is about 2 years old. She is part Egyptian Mau - a very loving, loyal breed. She is great with kids and loves to play and snuggle. She is already missing her family and longs for a new place to call her own.
She is very easy going as you can see. Even though she isn't exactly thrilled - she let us dress her up in different outfits and take her picture!
We just found out she is FIV+ (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus)
FIV is not a mandatory death sentence. With a high protein diet and aggressive treatment of secondary infections, an FIV-positive cat can lead a reasonably normal life span. Feline immundeficiency virus infection does not lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome in cats as often as human immunodeficiency virus leads to AIDS in people. The largest threat to FIV-positive cats is secondary infections, such as bladder, skin, and upper respiratory infections. Kidney failure is also frequently seen in cats with FIV. These secondary infections should be treated promptly and aggressively in any cat, but especially with an FIV cat.
Going by the book - we have to recommend that she be an only cat. Or placed in a home with other FIV+ cats. It cannot be transmitted to dogs or humans - only cat to cat. Saliva to blood (biting) is generally accepted as the primary source of spreading the virus, and it is unlikely (but not impossible) that cats will spread FIV by drinking or eating out of the same food dish, or by mutual grooming.
Won't you please open your heart and your home to Samera? She doesn't think she is any different from anyone else and has lots of love to give! Her adoption fee has been waived.
