OUR "HAPPY TALE" OF THE YEAR (SO FAR!) "OLD RUSTY" is my name and the name is justified-I am old and rusty-not only rusty-but rusty orange in color as well-.I consider myself the luckiest Guy in the Cat world. HERE IS MY LIFE STORY: I am about 18-19 years old.-Who knows , I myself lost count of the years. I lived outside in one of the colonies of feral cats all my life. Someone dumped me there a long time ago, and one nice lady was feeding me every day of these years – through all of those cold winters and the hottest summers; and the storms and the raining days and nights; and, somehow I got through this. How often, when I was still out there looking into the air and sky I would say to myself--NOBODY deserves to live like this, especially when you’re so old and you come to the end of your life. What did I ever do to deserve this? But one day, late in one of the coldest days in December of 2007, this golden girl Luciana who took care of me, saw me all frozen and curled up. I had a cold, so she took me into a house, the house of another angel disguised as a woman - Gerri - who with her care and her soft hands stroked my fur many times and made me feel all better…. But I did hear them for a while, they were thinking of euthanizing me if I didn't get better; but I did get better - and no one had the heart to put me back outside with the colonies. I now had my very own bed and a young orange kitty who curled up with me and helped keep me warm. His name was Cashew - and he is still there, with the nice lady, looking for a warm heart to adopt him. One day, unexpectedly there came a message that a lady named Cathy would be interested to see me, despite my age. This sweet person was not scared of thinking to adopt me in spite of my age and some sniffles. At first, I thought “Is this a joke??” But this lovely lady said she had lost her darling kitty of 14 years and that she had some wonderful experiences with adopting older cats--cats that no one would take home. This alone would tell you of Cathy’s golden heart. She came once, then a second time with her husband Howard. There was another cat in their mind as well-- but they selected "ME" – Me, the old guy, despite still having some health issues. NOW I HAVE MY OWN HOME, A NEW SOFT BED and all seems to be well. I HOPE I GIVE THEM STILL A FEW YEARS OF HAPPINESS. So never let anybody tell you there is a "HOPELESS CASE" for adoption. There are still people out there who have a heart of gold who will give us not-so-young guys a life we deserve. I LOVE MY NEW MOMMY CATHY AND DADDY HOWARD. Thanks for listening! Who We Are

Care And Treatment of Strays (C.A.T.S) is a 501c not for profit organization. For the past fifteen years, we have been feeding, spaying/neutering and providing medical attention to over 200 stray cats in the northern New Jersey area. At the present we are caring for 6 stray cat colonies in an industrial area. We spay and neuter all our critters. They are fed twice daily and receive routine innoculations. Most of the cats are feral, however, many are very friendly towards people; they love attention and adore being held. We also have many cats whose irresponsible owners decided to dump them at our colonies. Since many of them were indoor cats they suffer tremendously from the elements as well as from lack of human contact. These are the ones we desperately try to find homes for. We experience difficulty in placing our cats due to the simple fact that we have no indoor facility where we can temporarily house them prior to placement. Our long term goal is to to raise enough money to be able to buy property where such a facility could be built. In addition to our cats, we have also rescued many dogs off the streets and from shelters where they were at risk of being euthanized.

Adopting a friend

We are dedicated to finding loving and responsible homes for our homeless animals. We will have you complete an adoption application form when we meet with you. We also ask that all members of your household be present at the time of adoption to be sure all are compatible. You must be at least 21 years old and have proper identification with your current address. We strictly enforce our policy of altering all our cats and dogs before being adopted. When adopting one of our critters, we ask that a donation is made just to cover innoculation and spay/neuter costs.
