Belle and Roxie lived all their lives together and we would like to keep it that way. Roxie is deaf and really follows Belle around and sleeps on her. Belle is a black Dachsi/Labrador mix. Both are very sweet, have been very clean in their crates and are probably house broken. Their owners moved and could not take these seniors with them. They look very healthy, have the typical Dachsi appetite, are spayed, they have had all their vaccinations and are micro chipped and heart worm negative. Please give these two lovely dogs one more chance, you won't regret it. Call Rosemarie if interested or e-mail her at rdogsnpups@aol.com or call 973-865-6421.

Eva and Emmie are puggles = Pug/Beagle mixes and on the deinty side. The girls weigh 10 lbs. and are 9 months old. They are very sweet and love to play and be held. They are a little shy at first, but warm up to people quickly. They would do well in a home with older children and/or adults. They’ve had their shots, are spayed, heartworm negative, micro chipped and dewormed. Interested parties should call Judy at 973-429-0829.

Charlie needs to be re-homed. He spent 4 1/2 yrs. with his family but for health reasons he had to be given up again, together with his brother Buster. Charlie and Buster are 4 yrs. old, neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. They do not have to be placed together. Charlie weighs in at 90 lbs. and Buster weighs about 65 lbs. They are both loving pets, very strong but have been properly trained now and are well behaved. If you would like this active breed and would like to give either Buster or Charlie another chance, please contact Rosemarie at 973-865-6421

Duncan is one of the newest dogs in our foster care program and what a sweetheart! He is a 6 year old apricot miniature poodle weighing 12 lbs. who is very friendly and has yet to meet a stranger. Duncan loves playing with his buddy Max and is always at his foster mom's side. Duncan is also housebroken, crate trained, neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. If you would like to find out more about Duncan, please contact Debbie at 973-879-8839.

If you know Beagles....Humphrey is your typical hound dog....he is sweet, curious, can howl at times, likes heights as you can see in the picture, gets along with other dogs, is not too fond of the crate but will tolerate it since we are not sure about his house breaking habits. Humphrey is 3 yrs. old and came from KY. He is current on all vaccinations, micro-chipped, heart worm negative, loves attention and loves to roam in the yard. He would do well with children! Previous owner claimed he got out of his fence...he has not tried it here, we have a 6 foot fence. If interested in meeting this handsome fella, please contact Rosemarie at 973-865-6421.

Winter is a beautiful adult cat. At the age of 5 yrs. the owners decided they no longer could afford her and brought her to a kill shelter. She is sweet, declawed in the front, has extra toes, is feline aids and feline leukemia negative, had all vaccinations and is micro-chipped. SHE MIGHT BE DEAF. All she needs is a good, loving, indoor home. She gets along with other cats. If you care to adopt Winter, please contact Rosemarie at 973-865-6421

A PET'S TEN COMMANDMENTS
1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.
5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.
9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.
10.. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.
~Take a moment today to thank God for your pets. Enjoy and take good care of them. Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without God's critters.

There are approximately 45 cats and dogs for every person born. Only 1 out of 10 dogs born ever get a home. Only 1 out of 12 cats born ever find a home. Approximately 800 dogs & cats are KILLED each HOUR in the United States, because there are not enough homes for them!

SUCCESS STORY!

Former puppy mill dog, Eddie was recently featured in the Florham Park Hanover weekly newspaper!!! He was a resue from Orphaned Pets and here is what the article read: Eddie is a male toy poodle. His personality? Eddie was born in the Bluegrass State of Kentucky and was a puppy mill dog. He still doesn’t like going to his crate but is getting better. Cutest when? He loves to roll on his back and play with his squeaky toy. What is his silliest moment? His silliest moment was when my girlfriend left and he started to howl as if she was going to hear him. It was so soulful — like it hurt so much. I felt bad. He would have made a great wolf in another life. He also likes to knock over the garbage can in the bathroom and unroll the toilet paper from the toilet paper roll. What is his favorite human food? Carrots and cheese. Major accomplishment: Eddie is good at taking commands. He currently passed his beginner training class and did it with flying colors.

WHO ARE WE?
Orphaned Pets, Inc. is a non-profit corporation founded in 1990 with the sole purpose of helping unwanted domestic animals find compassionate homes. We're an all volunteer, local organization. We have no shelter facility. The animals are fostered by the volunteers, in their homes, until a suitable home becomes available. We rely on donations and fund-raising activities to support our efforts to save lives. All donations are tax deductible.

Why Should You Get Your Pet From Orphaned Pets?
Great question! You have lots of options. Why choose us? Why not go right to a shelter and adopt a pet there? Going to a shelter is an excellent choice. We work with many of the area shelters. Lots of them have caring, trained staff ready and very willing to help you make a good choice.

Some people, though, aren't comfortable going into a shelter. There are lots of reasons for this, and we certainly understand. That's where we come in. We go into the shelters for you. We very carefully select dogs we feel will make the best pets. They are temperment tested and evaluated by our trainer and screened for compatibility with other animals, etc. The dogs are then taken to our veterinarian for a complete physical exam, shots, deworming (if necessary), grooming or any other care that's needed.

The dogs are then placed in the homes of our volunteers where they're fostered until they're adopted. While the dogs are in their foster homes, our volunteers work with them, teaching some basic obedience. This training might include housebreaking, leash control, basic manners, etc.

So, when you adopt one of our dogs, it probably has been in a foster home for at least several days. It's been able to begin adjusting to a home environment. Many times it's in a home with other animals so it's learned to adapt to other dogs and/or cats.

Because the dogs live with us, we can usually tell you a lot about them - are they good with children, with other animals, are they protective of their food, do they have any special needs, etc.

Please understand that we aren't competing with shelters or any other animal welfare group. We all have the same goal - finding loving homes for homeless animals. So whether you go to a shelter or come to us, we welcome you and thank you for opening your home and your heart to a needy dog (or two!).

Here's Where You Can Find Us: Because we foster all the animals in our homes, we don't have a shelter with posted hours. However, we're very active in the community. You can look for us on a rotating basis at the locations below.
  • First Saturday of the month, PETCO, 339 Pompton Avenue, Verona(Rt. 23)
  • Second Saturday of the month, PETCO, Route 10W, East Hanover
  • Third Saturday of the month,Patsy's, Furler Street, Totowa

    .
  • Fourth Saturday of the month, PETCO, Route 46, Parsippany

  • (See Featured Event above for our next adoption day & location)
If you'd like to know more about the pets we currently have available for adoption - or if you'd like to volunteer with Orphaned Pets, Inc. call Rosemarie at (973)882-8363. Here's How You Can Adopt One Of Our Wonderful Pets: There are two ways to adopt: (1) Come to one of our Featured Events listed above and see the dogs and cats available that day or, (2) Call us and talk about the new family member you have in mind and we will work together to find that particular pet. We want to know about you: Adoption is a relationship and we make it our business to match people with the best pets and pets with the best people. Here are some questions we might ask to get acquainted with you and your home: Is this dog/cat for you or is it a gift? Do you currently have pet(s)? If yes, tell us about them. What are your reasons for wanting a pet? Are there children living in or visiting the house and what are their ages? Who would care for the pet? Do all family members agree about having a pet? What is the longest amount of time the pet would spend alone on average? Would this dog live inside or outside? Do you have a fenced yard? This isn't an interrogation, we just want to be sure we get the best pet for you and the best home for our pets. Our Spay/Neuter Philosophy: We support the spay/neuter policy. We see this as the only permanent solution to the stray problem. When one of our pets is adopted, the new owners qualify to have their pet spayed/neutered for just $25 through the state funded spay/neuter program. As part of our agreement, all new pet owners must agree to spay/neuter their pet within the time limit noted on the adoption contract. (Most of our pets are already spayed/neutered) Here Are The Services We Offer You:
  • Promote Spay/neuter through State funded program
  • Provide preliminary veterinary care (physical exam, vaccinations, evaluation, etc.)
  • When possible will help with boarding or temporary care
  • Answer your pet care questions
  • Provide continuing, lifetime support for the new owners of our pets
Take the Pledge:
The adoption process is formalized by a contract and we ask for a donation at that time. You must agree to the following terms: to spay/neuter within the time period specified on your contract (your contract is your enrollment in the state funded $25 spay/neuter program) You agree the animal is intended as a household pet and that you promise to provide humane care, proper food, water, shelter and veterinary care necessary at all times. You agree the animal is never to be used for the purpose of laboratory experimentation and the pet will never be abandoned. Here's What You Can Do Right Now:
We'd love to hear from you. Call us at any time to talk. Whether you're interested in a pet right now, are thinking of getting a pet in the future, would like to volunteer or just want to have your questions answered, call Rosemarie at (973)882-8363. We're very friendly, we love animals and we'd be happy to hear from you. Can't Adopt One Of Our Dogs, But You Still Want To Help? Here's What You Can Do:
1) Probably one of the best things you can do to help our dogs is to let other people know about us. Tell them they can get to this page simply by going to: http://www.op.petfinder.org That will bring them directly to this page. Then, they can look at our dogs at their leisure. 2) If you see a pet you think may be of interest to a friend or co-worker, print out that dog's description page. Give it to your friend. Or post it at work. Or email the dog's profile directly to the person. Lots of wonderful people post flyers at work and help us spread the word...and find great homes.

3) Donate, donate, donate. We can use your time, your money, your dog toys/food/supplies or just about anything else you'd be kind enough to give us. Not sure what we need? Just ask. We're always happy to talk about that!

"Guide dogs for the blind, hearing dogs for the deaf, dog companions for those that live alone...Dogs who comfort the sick and elderly and befriend lonely children. All over the world there are hundreds of thousands of these faithful animals serving us with their love." ~ J.R.E. ~

~

Please speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. If you see an animal in need and don't know what to do, call your local Animal Control. If you don't know their number - call your police!

~ Spay and neuter your pets. It is the only way we can prevent the mass euthanasia of homeless animals. For every puppy/kitten that is born, it is one less animal that will be adopted from a shelter. ~ Look at our Pet List. Many of the animals listed were abandoned by their owners. When you own an animal, it is a lifetime commitment. Cherish them. No human will ever love you more.
