Special Services: Humane Services staff are available to visit schools and community groups to discuss the humane treatment of all animals and responsible pet ownership. If you are interested in a visit from one of our staff members or would like a shelter tour, please call 754 - 2489 (CITY) during regular working hours.

Who We Are

We are an animal care and adoption centre operated by the City of St. John's that offers the following services:
* full time Veterinarian on staff to care for shelter animals.
* provides shelter and medical care for animals that are roaming the streets, injured, lost or abandoned.
* rescues injured animals that have been struck by automobiles or suffered some other form of injury.
* delivers legal notices to owners who allow their pets to roam the streets or cause a public disturbance.
* operates an after hour emergency service for calls involving aggressive and/or injured dogs and cats.
* educates the public on responsible pet ownership and animal welfare issues.
* finds new, responsible homes for as many homeless pets as is possible.
* issues pet i.d. tags and keeps a computerized registration system.
* keeps lost and found animal reports

Adopting a friend

We always have beautiful, loving animals looking for new, responsible homes!

Cats and Kittens: $120.00 Adoption Fee
Residents of St. John's will have to pay an extra $15.00 to have the animal registered.

Includes:
*full medical examination by our staff veterinarian,
*first vaccination,
*felv test,
*dewormed,
*flea treated,
*pet insurance,
*kitten care package
*25% off your first exam with the veterinarian of your choice.

Dogs and Puppies: $140.00 Adoption Fee
Residents of St. John's will have to pay an extra $15.00 to have the animal registered.

Includes:
*full medical examination by our staff veterinarian,
*first vaccination,
*kennel cough vaccine,
*dewormed,
*flea treated,
*pet insurance,
*dog care package,
*1 hour training session with Markwin Kennels
*25% off your first exam with the veterinarian of your choice.

Humane Services strongly recommends that all cat owners keep their pets as indoor cats.

No dogs or puppies will be adopted out as hunting dogs or outdoor/guard dogs.

Shelter Hours: Monday - Friday 12:00 - 4:00pm. Saturday & Sunday 3:00 - 5:00pm
