This summer we have rescued 60 puppy mill dogs. Because of the economy and public education, puppy sales are down, and mass breeders are being driven out of business. We need your help to be able to continue to rescue dogs in large numbers. You can help by donating for their care or by helping us place the dogs in wonderful loving homes so that we have space to comfortably house more. Our donation form can be found online at www.hua.org. You can be a Buddy to a dog and write a special message to him while he waits for his forever home, or you can sponsor a Sanctuary Sweetheart - a dog who will remain at the sanctuary forever. All of the over 350 beautiful dogs at the sanctuary can be found online at www.hua.org.
Hearts United for Animals is a national no-kill animal shelter, sanctuary and animal welfare organization dedicated to the relief of suffering. We rescue dogs from all over the country and specialize in long distance adoptions. We take the creatures who are lost, afraid, hungry or ill and comfort them, give them a warm, soft bed, good food, medical care and most of all, love. HUA is a place of happiness, joy and love. Everything we do is in the best interest of the dogs. There are no cages. The dogs have big fields of grass and trees in which to run. Our primary interest is what will make them happy. HUA is a place to celebrate the joy of life.
Hearts United for Animals is determined to place each dog in the right home for that particular dog. We take lots of time to get to know each dog and can tell you in detail about their personalities. We have an application process. The application asks information that helps us determine whether the home would be the right one for that dog. You can download the application at www.hua.org. If the application is found to be a good match with a dog for adoption, then we will schedule a home visit by one of our volunteers in your area. Since we are the rare shelter that does long distance adoptions, we have set very high criteria for chosing the right homes for our dogs. We are exceptionally careful. We always have the best interest of the dogs in mind. Very few dogs do well without a securely fenced yard, and we rarely ever place a dog without a fenced yard. It is our job to protect and insure the happiest, safest possible future for all of the dogs who come through our doors. Each dog is precious to us and we take our responsibilities to them very seriously. Our adoption fee is $200 dollars. The adoption fee helps offset the cost of having the dog altered, vaccinated, tested for heartworms, microchipped and provided any other medical care necessary. It costs far more than $200 dollars to provide all the medical care that the dogs require before they are adopted. We do send dogs on airplanes to new homes if there are safe flights. The cost of the flight is additional to the adoption fee. The cost varies depending upon the size of the dog, the airline, and the the method of shipping. We use our own kennels so that you do not have to buy one but ask that they be returned as soon as possible. If there is ever a problem with any dog adopted from us, whatever the reason, we take the dog back. We make a lifetime commitment to the dogs that we rescue, we will either find them another home or they will live with us as Sanctuary Sweethearts. You cannot give the dog to anyone else for any reason. You need to be certain that you understand and agree with this requirement. Please email email@example.com if you have any questions. Please fax your application to 402.274.3689 or email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are located between Nebraska City and Auburn, just an hour from Omaha and Lincoln. The dogs love visitors! If you'd like to stop by please e-mail email@example.com for directions. Visiting hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day of the week and weekends except for Wednesdays. We are closed Wednesdays so that we can put our sole focus on our low cost spay/neuter clinic that we operate for the public. You can visit all of our over 200 lovely dogs online and see more detailed descriptions, photos and videos at www.hua.org in the "Looking for Love" section of our website.
