Things were getting run down and needing fixing with little funds to do this with. A Lady started taking interest in the shelter and telling others about the shelter and they would come out to the shelter and put in a days work cleaning and fixing a few things here and there. I received several donations and applied the money on the repairing of the kennels. This was a blessing at the time when it came to me and the shelter. All is good and hopefully will stay in good condition. Thanks to the people who have helped me with this big project.

Our Featured Pet

The pet for today is a beautiful and super sweet Pit/Lab/Bassett hound X, she is 4 years old and housetrained, get along pretty good with other dogs and is spay, she is here because her owners neighbors didn't like her and didn't want her is the area. They have done this before with another dog that Athema owners had. I am not sure what is going on in the area, but these dogs are great here and can't get along in that area. So it is just as well for the dog if they are not there. She is timid at first but loves attention. She is alittle reserved around cats. I don't know if she would hurt them or just check them out. But dogs like Athema get the bad rap. More than likely are teased and then they are not as friendly to the outsiders, and have to leave the family because of circumstances beyond their control. She is a great dog and needs a fresh start and new home that will give her protection and love.Athema is a great dog when given the chance to show it.

Who we are

Adopt-A-Dog was started back in 1987, I found three little pups out at the in-laws place and wanted to catch them and find them good homes. One came up missing and I received a call that one little puppy was about 10 miles from where I last saw him. So I drove out there and sure enough it was the third pup and he was really thirsty and starving. So I decided then that I would try and help who I could. I did not realize what this thing would blossom into in 15 yrs. It really has gotten out of hand. I also started a spay day program here in our area and with help of others who care about the welfare of the animals pitched in and we now have a annual spay day and usually will spay 80some animals. It is a good month for this area and the animals. I am a independent and I work out of my home. I have two daughters and a husband who pitch in when I need help. We all work for the good of the animals. I am a very lucky lady to have the support of my kids and husband. I have a 20 run dog kennel that is just down the lane from the house and they have run of inside/ outside pens. In the winter they have heated inside and they are let out alot. They get full tummies and water daily. We have had some teary times, but in a whole it has been happy times when the dogs find good loving homes.

Adopting a friend

When adopting a dog from the shelter we have you spend some time with the pet of your chioce and see if both parties get along with each other. Then we have you fill out an adoption form. We do have an donation fee that helps cover expenses. You then have a week to see if the pet is adjusting to its new home or not, and I will call you, or you call me. I want you to fill me in on if the animal is settling in nicely. I will try and help you adjust to the new pet and the pet adjust to you. I will always try and take the animal back if the kennels are not full at the time, if they are I ask if you could wait til we make room.
