"Courtesy Listing" (CL) animals are not in our Rescue program and have not been evaluated by MARR volunteers. They are listed as a courtesy to someone in need of re-homing an animal. MARR makes no representations and expressly disclaims any and all liability as to the temperament, health, or other trait of Courtesy Listing animals and will only relay their contact information to you. Courtesy Listings are private adoptions processed through current owners, shelters, etc., although MARR will often assist in the process
MidAmerica Rottweiler Rescue works to rescue and rehome Rottweilers throughout the MidWest.
MidAmerica Rottweiler Rescue (MARR) was founded in March 1999. Although it is a new organization, many MARR members have years of experience in Rescue. We are always looking for Rottweiler enthusiasts of all experience levels who are interested in becoming members. The only membership dues required are your love of the breed and a desire to help. There is something for everyone to do! If you wish to help this wonderful breed, volunteer!
This rescue organization was formed because we saw a great need for a rescue network in the states of northeastern Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and western/central/southern Illinois. While some of these states have strong and successful Rescue groups, there are gaps in area coverage and some states have no Rescue at all.
Rottweilers are loyal, courageous and loving dogs. Contrary to popular belief, a Rottweiler who has been raised with children makes a wonderfully attentive guardian and best friend. As with any dog, they give what they receive. If they are abused, starved , beaten or ignored they may retaliate in self-defense. However, we have taken dogs into Rescue who have been mercilessly abused, and still they continue to trust and love.
MARR receives dogs from private shelters, Humane Societies, animal control facilities, and other organizations where a dog has been abandoned. In most cases we adopt Rottweilers from the shelters as a "last resort" adoptor, giving the shelter maximum time to adopt the dog through their own system. However we do help the owner place those dogs on a referral basis.
Our MidAmerica Rottweiler Rescue organization is supported totally through donations and fund raising efforts of the members. No tax monies support our organization. We are organized as a nonprofit organization and are recognized as a federal nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. This allows for public support and guarantees any donor tax deductible benefits according to current laws. Donations to MARR fall into the 50% category.

Adopting A Friend
We require an Adoption Application be completed before anyone can adopt a dog. Potential adopters are required to provide a veterinarian reference as well as the names of three other people who will give a reference for them. We ask that potential adopters allow a home visit, if requested. We also contact your landlord if you rent, please make sure you have their permission to own a Rottweiler before filling out an application. We prefer that the home have a fenced yard. In the event we determine the home to be a healthy and loving environment, a Rottweiler is matched with the adopter's lifestyle and family. When the adopter arrives to pick up his or her new companion from our foster home, the Adoption Contract is signed, both by MARR and the adoptive party. We also require a fee for the adoption.
Where does that fee go? All dogs adopted through MARR are neutered, heartworm tested, and given rabies and DHLPP vaccinations. Dogs coming into the Rescue with natural tails remain undocked. Most Rottweiler puppies are docked before they leave the breeder at 3 to 5 day old, if the breeder is reputable. Thousands of puppies, however, are the result of a puppy mill or 'backyard' breeding. They are typically in very poor health and no money is spent on cosmetics. By the time we get these puppies it is ethically too late to dock the tails, and we are far more concerned with the health of the dog than trying to make it fit a stereotype.
Besides standard veterinary care necessary for most dogs, some have special health needs resulting in higher medical fees. Rescue groups are also required to pay the standard adoption fee when taking an animal from a shelter or animal control facility. In addition, we bear the expense of feeding, housing and related telephone expenditures necessary to foster and place the dogs.

Unable to Adopt? Sponsoring is easy and we desperately need your help to continue this work.
We understand there are those of you who cannot take a dog in to your homes or are unable to offer volunteer services but want to help with rescue. For this reason we offer the 'Sponsor-A-Dog' program. You may pledge a monthly fee to help rescue a specific dog in our care or to help all our rescue dogs, or alternatively you may want to offer a one-time donation.
If you decide to sponsor a specific dog in our rescue program we will keep you informed of your dogs progress. Sponsors will receive a known history of the dog they sponsor plus a photo and regular updates by email. Please know that all your contributions will go to help your sponsor dog.
