"I am involved in dog rescue: my wallet and gas tank are always running on empty, my house is never quiet and free of dog hair, nor is my car, my inbox is full of ongoing despair and misery, but my heart and soul are replenished with unconditional love, loyalty, and joy that can only come from a rescued dog!" ~ Author Cindi Shaw~

What Prairie Paws Rescue is all about: Prairie Paws Rescue is staffed by VOLUNTEERS who are dedicated to helping animals. Calls, emails and correspondence are returned in a timely manner usually in the evening hours or when time permits during the day. Prairie Paws Rescue has rescued from puppy mills, families surrendering their pets due to life changes and strays (locally and regionally) needing good homes and the local city pound. 92% of the animals currently in our foster care program are from the Jamestown community and surrounding counties. Our rescue group often works with dogs and cats on death row at many pounds, high kill shelters and cases where there is no room at the local shelters for them. Prairie Paws has driven many miles to do what we can to get these animals into our care, to get them to reputable rescues and give them a second chance. We also work with other rescue groups in providing transportation to get rescued animals to forever homes and foster homes. These transports are provided by the "volunteer" drivers who donate their time, gas, vehicle and their own "out of pocket" expense to see that these animals get from Point A to Point B. Donations to our organization go directly toward medical cost of spaying/neutering, up to date shots, worming, tick and flea treatments and heartworm tests.
MISSION STATEMENT*Aid in placing animals in suitable homes according to the animals needs and special needs animals in appropriate homes *Provide for, house, rehabilitate and relocate lost, strayed or homeless pets *Promote spay/neutering to prevent unwanted litters *Provide Humane Education to Adopters and the Community *To provide basic and vet recommended medical services to animals in our care *Reunite lost animals with their owners *Serve as advocates for animals--speaking for those who can not speak for themselves
Do you LOVE animals?Would you like to make a difference in an animals life? If your answer is yes, please consider being a foster home, volunteer and help out our mission to help homeless pets. We are in need of people to open their homes and hearts to a stray pet until a home can be found. We especially need foster homes for medium to large breed dogs and for cats. There are certain requirements that need to be covered in order to become a "Foster Family". (701) 320-4553, (701) 269-2206 or by the email address listed below You don't have to be a foster home to help. You can help by spreading the word about Prairie Paws Rescue, hang up flyers of adoptable pets or upcoming events, provide transportation, take animals to vet appointments, help with fundraisers and meet and greet events, collect items for the pets like blankets, toys, puppy & kitten chow, and high quality food for proper nutrition. Volunteers are welcome.
How to Adopt a Friend: We do not have a shelter, therefore, no visiting hours. All animals are in volunteer foster homes in the Jamestown area. We can give you detailed information about each animal as they live with us as part of our family. We encourage emails instead of phone calls. Emails help our volunteers keep track of information requested and correspondence can be handled in a timely manner. If you are considering the responsibility of becoming a pet parent and see one of our adoptables you are interested in, we ask that you fill out a "PRE-ADOPTION APPLICATION". This application will then be reviewed by our Prairie Paws volunteers and the foster parents who are caring for the animal until a permanent home is found. This application is based on the best interest of both the pet and you as their guardian. The application process can take up to seven days with reference, landlord checks, a home visit, etc.....Prairie Paws requires that all animals be spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Prairie Paws does not adopt out pets on a first come, first served basis or put any of the foster pets on "hold", without an approved application. Our goal is to find a family committed to the lifetime of the pet and placing the animals in homes suited to the pets needs. Adopters must be at least 18 years of age and independent (i.e. not living at home with parents, etc...) If you see a pet you are interested in....please email us first with questions and we will have the foster parents contact you with information. Adoption applications can be printed from our website: Our Website Print them off, fill them out and mail them back. Or you can request an on line application that can be filled out on line. prairiepawsrescue@hotmail.com All animals are spayed, neutered, shots updated, wormed, flea and tick treatment, vet checked and some have had heart worm tests and vaccinated for bordetella, before being placed in homes. A pre-adoption application is required before adoptions or meeting the animals can take place. Donation for Adoption fees: Dogs: $50.00-$125.00 depending on what medical work needs completing Cats: $25.00-$75.00 depending on medical work needed Come Visit Us: Pet Meet and Greets are held the 2nd Saturday of the month at Jamestown Tractor Supply Company (TSC) located at 1100 5th Ave SE Jamestown. Otherwise all pets are kept in foster homes and appointments can be made to visit the pet by calling (701) 320-4553 or (701) 253-8371. Donations:Prairie Paws Rescues accepts gifts for the animals in our care. Our major expense at this time in medical cost of spaying/neutering, updated shots, worming and vet care. We want to ensure the animals have a healthy start on a new life. Many times there is extra medical work like teeth cleaning, extractions, eye and ear medication treatments, ear mites, cherry eye surgery, mange and skin problems, etc...that each pet needs. These expenses are not added on to the adoption donation costs. This is where the donations and fundraising events are used to cover added expenses. Prairie Paws Rescue also accepts donations of gently used towels, blankets, pet carriers, dog and cat beds, toys and high quality dog, cat, puppy and kitten chow. We have received our 501c3 status, so donations are now tax deductable. Gift cards are available if you would like to send a donation on behalf of a Birthday, Memorial, or other Honorary gift. We also need help transporting animals to rescues and foster homes. Transports usually take place during the weekends and with in a 100-150 mile area. If you can help by providing your time, gas and your vehicle in transporting an rescue pet, please contact us (701) 320-4553
