News

Our volunteers visit PetSmart in Wilmington, NC almost every Saturday to offer some of our pets for adoption. Please stop by and see if we have the companion you desire. PetSmart is located on Market Street and New Center Drive.

Who We Are

The Columbus Humane Society, Inc. is a non-profit organization established to: promote responsible pet ownership; reduce numbers of unwanted animals by encouraging pet owners to spay or neuter; improve conditions at the Columbus County Animal Control Shelter; and provide more opportunities for adoptions.

In our area, there are many unwanted, starving and abandoned animals. Columbus Humane Society is a "last hope" haven for many of these animals. With much love and compassion, we provide veterinary care, spay/neuter and find permanent, loving homes for the animals in our program.

We are always seeking people who may have a few hours a month to help with the care and placement of these animals, or who can foster an animal in their home. We have a long waiting list of animals who need our help and we are limited by the number of people who volunteer to foster pets. If you love animals but cannot commit to keeping a pet permanently, fostering is a very rewarding alternative. You save a life because it buys an animal time until the right home can be found. Adopting a Friend

We have a variety of animals that need a good and loving home. All of the animals available for adoption have received first shots, as well as a rabies vaccination and have been spayed or neutered and dewormed. If we've had the animal long enough, they have received booster shots also. Our adoption fees are:

Kittens and Cats - $60

Puppies - $150

Dogs - $125

While we spend much more on our rescued animals, these fees give us some help in caring for all the animals we keep until adopted.

If you connect with a certain pet shown on Petfinder please call the contact person listed to ask questions, and find out how you can meet. They won't mind!!! Usually that person is also fostering the pet in their home and can tell you much more about him or her.

Come Visit Us!

Since we do not have our own Shelter yet, we are working out of volunteer foster homes in a three-county area including Columbus, Bladen and Robeson Counties. Foster parents readily open their homes to these animals for the care and attention they need. They will also welcome YOU into their home to meet the pet who catches your eye so you may observe it in a familiar environment.
