Who We Are
The mission of New Hanover County Animal Services Unit is to protect the public from the threat of rabies virus exposure, and to ensure proper animal care, through prevention, public perception, and education.
The purposes of this division are:
• To serve the citizens of our county in all matters pertaining to animals
• To protect the public health and safety
• To prevent animal cruelty
• To promote the health and safety of animals
Adopting a friend
Animal adoptions are from 12:00 pm-4:45pm Monday through Friday and Saturdays from 10:00 am-2:00 pm.. The adoption fee includes surgical alteration, most vaccinations, and deworming for hooks and rounds. Dogs come with a collar and a leash, and cats go home with a collar and a cat box. New Hanover County residents must also register their pets.

Come Visit Us!
Division Drive runs between 23rd Street and Castle Hayne Road. It is easily accessed from the MLK Parkway. The shelter is a part of the Winfred Simpson County Complex.
