We are a part of the "Sponsor A Pet" Program!
We have recently become part of Petfinders' Sponsor A Pet Program. You can now click on the "Sponsor Me" icon on any of our dogs' bios and donate right from Petfinder! All of our dogs come from a local shelter. They come into our program emaciated and in need of a lot of vet care and TLC. We are entirely volunteer run and rely on the generousity of donations to keep our program up and running. Any amount that you can donate will help pay our enormous vet bills. We appreciate your support!

Who We Are
In May of 2008, Monty's Home received state approval to start its first Pawsitive Partners Prison Program (PPPP), in conjunction with a local correctional facility, the first companion dog prison program in Southeastern North Carolina!
The state generously provided funds to build kennels at the correction facility, BUT, Monty's Home carries all other costs associated with the program, veterinary bills, grooming supplies, food, toys, bedding, leashes, collars, treats, anything having to do with proper canine care and training. This important program is staffed completely by volunteer trainers exists only THROUGH YOUR GENEROUS DONATIONS!
After temperament evaluation and heartworm testing, our trainers will select five dogs from a local shelter. We will arrange to have them have them spayed or neutered, brought up to date on vaccinations, and enter them into the Pawsitive Partners Prison Program.
Living at the facility with their specially screened inmate-trainers, the dogs go through an eight-week training course. The inmates, under the guidance of Monty's Home volunteer trainers, train the dogs to AKC Canine Good Citizenship Certification standards. After graduation, the wonderfulness starts again for five more dogs!
When a Monty's Home dog joins his forever home he is heartworm negative, current on heartworm prevention and up to date with age-appropriate vaccinations. In addition, he will know the basic requirements for Canine Good Citizenship Certification, and comes complete with his own crate, bed, toys, leash, collar, a one-week supply of food and treats to help with the transition and a group training session with the new family.
Perhaps you are ready to expand your family and would like to give a PPPP graduate a forever home, and you downloaded the application. Or maybe you took a moment to investigate the tremendous tangible value you get when deciding to adopt a Monty's Home canine. (There is no way to measure the intangible value and joy received from sharing your life with a rescue dog.)
We thank you for spending your valuable time learning
more about the phenomenal Pawsitive Partners Prison Program!
Adopting a friend
Monty's Home is committed to carefully matching dogs and families based on the dog's temperament, energy level and family lifestyle. Our adoption coordinator and her team carefully evaluate each application to ensure the right dog goes to the right home.
All the dogs originated from Pender County Animal Control, Burgaw, NC. When available, we provide specific background information. Otherwise, we will give our best guess estimate of age and breed mix.
If you would like more info about any of the animals or the adoption process, please contact the Adoption Coordinator:
