OUR FEATURED PET IS JETHRO.

Please come and meet these beautiful and wonderful animals today and give them a chance! The shelter is always full.

Jethro is about 10 months old. He is a big boy, weighing about 70 lbs. His heart is equally as big...he is just a real lovable sweetheart...a shelter favorite! He loves to give you his paw. He is neutered and up to date on all vetting. He has a case of demodex mange that he has been all treated for and is recovering nicely. He has no special needs or adverse effects from it. It will just take a little time for some of the lost fur to grow back. If interested in giving this special dog the loving home he deserves, please e-mail or call about him now. But hurry, the shelter is very crowded.<

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!

We are looking for volunteers to help with the activities at the shelter, as well as foster families who would be able to take in a dog or cat for 3-5 days. If you are interested in fostering, please e-mail Kris at LenoirCountySPCA@yahoo.com.

PLEASE DONATE FOOD:

When you purchase a 22 lb. bag of PEDIGREE® Food for Dogs, PEDIGREE® will match your donation with another 22 lb. bag for our shelter. Each 22lb bag is only $9.99!

Please go to DONATE PEDIGREE DOG FOOD and click on the bag of dog food.
Next, designate this shelter at the bottom of the order page where it says "Find a Shelter."

CRATES, PET CARRIERS, DRIVERS NEEDED!!!

If you have an old dog or cat crate that you are not using, please consider donating it to the shelter. We have need of crates to use in transporting the animals to rescue. Sometimes the crates are sent ahead with the cat or dog and we don't get them back. We always need more of these. Even if you have part of a crate or the door to a crate - we might be able to use them to repair other crates we have! You can drop one off when the shelter is open and we'll give you a charitable donation receipt. Or, you can leave it in the shelter parking lot where we can see it when we open up. Even if the crate is missing the bolts to hold it together, we can still use it! And, of course, we'll gladly accept donations of new crates!

If you are interested in signing up to help transport animals to rescue, please leave your name, phone number or email at the front desk too. You can also email us at LenoirCountySPCA@yahoo.com. .

HOW TO DONATE A KURANDA DOG BED

If you can't volunteer, please consider donating a Kuranda Dog Bed to the shelter. We'd like to use these beds so the dogs won't have to sleep on the hard cement floors. Even dogs that have never seen one of these beds, take to it quickly.

Donate a BedWe use Patented Kuranda Dog Beds because they are durable, chew proof and easy to clean. If you would like to donate a bed to us, click here.

Who We Are

The Lenoir County SPCA is a Non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals, the education of responsible pet owners, and the enforcement of humane animal control. Lenoir SPCA also functions as the Lenoir County Animal Pound and animals not adopted are put to sleep.

We are seeing increasingly growing numbers of family pets turned in due to vacations and moving plans, in addition to the strays and abandoned animals being brought in by Animal Control. We usually see a decrease in the number of adoptions much to the same reasons. Therefore, we will be continuously overcrowded and have many wonderful animals desperate for safe, loving homes.

IF YOU SEE an animal you are interested in, please call the shelter and see if it is still available. The shelter does not have computer access, email is checked by a volunteer at their home, therefore, you SHOULD CALL THE SHELTER if you do not get a response from emailing. Animals are given 72 hours to be adopted, sometimes they are kept a few days longer if space is available. This website is updated weekly. Shelter hours are Monday thru Saturday 12 noon to 4 p.m. and closed on Sundays. .

Adopting a friend

There is always a constant flow of animals at the shelter, making it nearly impossible to keep an accurate web page. There are always several more at the shelter than what you may see here. I encourage you to visit the shelter. Adopting a pet is very easy. We have everyone fill out a questionaire, including a veterinary reference, just to make sure our animals get the best homes possible. There is a $100.00 donation for all dogs and a $90.00 dollar donation for cats, which includes a spay/neuter certificate, a rabies vaccine, worming and a distemper vaccine for the animal. You are required to take the animal into a vet within three to five days to insure its health and to get any additional shots.

ANIMALS FROM THIS SHELTER ARE REQUIRED TO BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED ONCE AGE APPROPRIATE. ANIMALS AT THE SHELTER ARE NOT ROUTINELY ALTERED PRIOR TO ADOPTION.

IF YOU ARE WITH A RESCUE:

We are very pleased and fortunate to on occasion be able to place some of our wonderful pets into all breed or breed specific rescue groups where they will be safe and cared for until their forever home is found. To ensure that our animals are placed into legitimate and proper rescue groups, there is a screening process for the organization. If you are with a rescue organization and are interested in one of our animals, please email Kris, our Rescue Coordinator.

You will be required to provide your organization's adoption contract, vet name and number so that verification can be obtained to condition of animals in your care, name of director or intake director, a brief overview of screening process, and any information about your organization you feel is necessary.
