About Us!
The Animal Ark is a small, rural animal shelter in quiet and beautiful Warren County, NC. The Animal Ark receives between 1500 to 1800 lost, stray, abandoned and unwanted dogs and cats each year who are cared for by dedicated staff and volunteers. The Ark is committed to providing the highest possible standards in humane animal care and to supporting the spaying and neutering of companion animals. We are a rescue-friendly shelter and all 501(c)3 animal rescues are encouraged to sign up as an approved rescue and work with us in ending needless dog and cat euthanasia.
The Animal Ark also houses Animal Control whose dedicated field officers are removing animals from bad situations.
Staff are on duty during normal working hours, so you can call anytime during the day!
Adopting Adoption hours are 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Don't worry if you want to adopt that special new pet, we can make an appointment for you on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Call us at 252-257-6137, leave message, we may be in the animal rooms!

Adopting a new pet is a simple process at the Animal Ark but one that requires some planning and thought. Check out this simple checklist before adopting!

Adopting a Cat

All of our cats have been tested for Feline Leukemia, are current on core vaccines, rabies vaccines (if old enough) have been dewormed and are socialized. If a cat (or kitten) has a peculiarity, such as not tolerating other cats, children, etc, or have special needs, this will be identified in their profile. Of course, we can't list all of their attributes so give us a call if you have further questions about any particular animal! Some cats have been spayed or neutered, some have not, their profile will tell you! When you adopt any dog or cat from the Ark, you will be required to sterilize the pet. There are many low-cost spay neuter options throughout NC and other states, it is easy to find one that will fit your budget!
Adoption fee for a cat is $40.00.
Rescue pull fee is $15.00.
