Our Featured Pet...

Lumina
Lumina is a sweet 1-yr old special-needs baby. Rescued at the tender age of 4 months from a feral colony, this poor little angel had been fending for herself despite the fact that she was born with a deformed left rear leg. Even though she was older then most kittens that we rescue from feral situations, we felt we just had to give this baby a chance. Since having a rocky road that included surgery to remove the remainder of her leg, Lumina is ready to find that special forever home that will provide her with the loving care and understanding that a very shy kitty like her needs. To find out more about Lumina, please see her personal page.

News

Due to some changes we are making, Heartsong Feline Rescue is now going NO DECLAW. What this means for adoptors is that they will no longer be able to declaw any of the kitties that they adopt from us. We feel that this not only encourages alternative and more humane behavior management techniques, but will hopefully help to keep as many kitties from having to undergo this drastic and cruel procedure. If you are interested in having a declawed kitty, we strongly recommend that you consider adopting a baby who has already been declawed, as there are many of them already in the world that need homes.

Who We Are

We are a small independent rescue based out of Raleigh, NC and dedicated to both the rescue and placement of homeless cats and kittens and the continued control of feral cat populations through the practice of TNR(trap-neuter-return). At the moment, we are unable to accept any more kitties into our program and due to our small size and limited ability we do not currently have a waiting list. However, if you have a kitty that you are fostering, we may be able to display their information on our site, so please don't hesitate to contact us. Also, we do not generally take surrendered pets, due to the fact that there are already so many homeless babies in the world.

Adopting a friend

To adopt one of our loving babies, please send an e-mail to heartsongrescue@gmail.com to receive instructions on how to go about getting and submitting an application. While we do not require home visits, we DO require that you be in contact with one of our staff members to make sure that the kitty you wish to adopt doesn't have special home needs. All cats and kittens have had full vet work-up courtesy of Glenwood Animal Hospital and Greystone Animal Hospital including but not limited to:
Full Comprehensive Exam
Feline Distemper Vaccine (2)
Rabies Vaccine
Deworming
Feline Leukemia and FIV tested NEGATIVE
HomeAgain Microchip implantation
Revolution Flea and Heartworm prev. applied
Due to the fact that many of our rescued babies come to us from questionable and harsh circumstances, Heartsong Feline Rescue requires that all cats and kittens be adopted into INDOOR-ONLY homes. Adoption fees are $120 per kitty, or $180 if you adopt a pair of kitties together. Please be advised that applications take 2-3 business days-time to process
Declaw Policy
At this time, Heartsong Feline Rescue has a policy of NO DECLAWING. We feel that the declaw surgery, which involves the surgical removal not only of the claw, but of the first digit of the toe, is a traumatic, cruel, and unneccesary procedure that should be avoided. While it is true that kittens declawed at a young age can recover very well from the procedure, we do not feel that this surgery is morally sound and therefore we do not allow it on the cats and kittens that we adopt out into homes. Heartsong Feline Rescue feels that claws, and the associated behaviors of scratching, are essential to the physical and mental well-being of a cat, and that owners who are adopting a new pet for their family should carefully consider that claws are a cat's natural defense system. A declawed cat can never go outdoors, and cannot properly defend itself should circumstances require it to do so. In addition, declawing is often painful and upsetting to the kitty and can lead to complications. To further support our policy and standpoint on this, all cats and kittens of Heartsong Feline Rescue have been worked with to help them accept regular nail trimming and we are more than happy to provide education in regards to proper nail care for our babies.
