Foster Animals:

Hi, I'm Jazmyne! I'm a 4-6 month old shepherd mix (maybe terrier, maybe doberman?). I was brought into the shelter with my brother Buddy almost 2 months ago but am being fostered by my foster mom, Robyn. My hobbies include wrestling with my big brother Bruiser, chasing after sticks, pulling the stuffing out of toys, eating treats (I love Pupperoni!), exploring different smells in the garden, and having my belly and chest rubbed. I love being outside but I never go very far away from my foster mom.

If you're ready for some fun times and cuddle sessions then PICK ME!

Update: Jazmyne is doing great with housetraining and is such a cuddle bug! If you're looking for a lap dog, she's the one for you!

Please contact Robyn for more info at 336-363-9187 or AlleghanyAnimals@yahoo.com.

This young adult kitty showed up at our home on Sunday , announcing herself loudly as she was up a tree in our front yard and could not make her way down.

After helping her down, I realized she was very friendly (and appreciative).

We know nothing about her except that she appears to be in good health and friendly. She's solid white with beautiful light blue eyes! Hope is definitely deaf.

There is no fee to adopt , however, prospective adoptive families must fill out an adoption application.

For more info, call or email Barbara second.chance.ranch@llive.com / phone: 336-975-0019.

Trinity is a 1 year old Tortoiseshell DSH. She is easy going and likes to be petted. She has been spayed and is up to date on shots. She gets along with other cats. This pet is in foster care. Call Holly at 336-363-3304 for more info.

Volunteering

Make a Difference and Change The World We Live In!

As consumers, we have the power to stop the cruel cycle of animal abuse perpetuated by puppy mills.

When we buy a pet or even shop at a store that sells puppies, we contribute to a heartless underground industry that forces dogs to spend their entire lives in cages constantly breeding to support consumer demand for puppies.

Take the pledge to stop puppy mills!
I will do my part to help stop puppy mills. I will pledge to help end this cycle of cruelty by:

  • Choosing not to buy my next pet from a pet store or Internet site
  • Refusing to buy supplies from any pet store or Internet site that sells puppies
Why breed or buy when shelter animals die?

Dogs Deserve Better! No Chained Dogs!

Would you for one second choose to live the life of these dogs? No matter what reason is given, the bottom line is that it is NOT ok to chain a dog for life. Dogs should not have to live chained or penned as prisoners, yearning for a place in a family, craving acknowledgement, respect, and love. They DESERVE BETTER, and we as caretakers have the obligation to provide it for them.

Who We Are

The Alleghany Animal Shelter is managed by Twin Oaks Veterinary Hospital in Sparta, NC. The shelter receives unwanted dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies dropped off by residents of Alleghany County. The shelter also receives stray animals collected by the dog catcher.

Adopting a friend

Adopting a pet is quick and easy! The adoption fee is $15 plus the cost of a rabies shot (for animals over 6 months of age). If an animal has received a parvo shot, this cost is also added to the adoption fee (mostly for puppies). We highly recommend updating each animal adopted with ALL vaccines and spaying/neutering prior to leaving the facility. There is no adoption application (unless the pet is listed under "Save a Pet Foundation"), it's just first come, first serve; however, you can place a "Hold" on an animal over the phone using a credit card.
