Notes:
1. Owner turn ins can be adopted immediately after being placed in the shelter's possession. They are also immediate candidates for euthanasia.
2. Strays MUST be held for 72 hours in order to give their owners a chance to locate them. If unclaimed within this time period, the companion becomes the possession of Columbus County Animal Control and can be adopted out.
***Procedure on release of strays: If owner does not reclaim within the 72 hour hold period, the first person at the shelter, on the day of release, is eligible to adopt the pet IF they stay at the shelter and wait until official release time. (Example: Release time is 11 a.m., you get there at 8 a.m., you must stay the full 3 hours to adopt the pet.)***
3. The shelter provides no medical care for these companions. There is no guarantee on the health of these companions. You should have your new companion vetted as soon as possible. Especially young pups and kittens.
