Who We Are
The Community Pet Center (Rutherford County Animal Protection Alliance) is a non-profit organization that has maintained an active presence at Rutherford County Animal Control since 1998. Our Volunteer Office is open Monday through Friday from 12-4 and Saturday from 10-2 to aid in adoptions, rescues and education. While maintaining our volunteer office here at Animal Control, we also provide a foster program for shelter animals. All foster animals are fully checked out by a veterinarian, up-to-date on vaccines and spayed/neutered.
Our mission is to safeguard and promote the adoption or rescue of animals, to provide education to the community about responsible pet ownership and to reduce pet overpopulation and unnecessary euthanasia through spay and neuter programs. In the past 10 years, almost 50,000 animals have been destroyed in Rutherford County. Our goals include:
1. Reducing the number of homeless animals by:
decreasing the annual euthanization rate from the previous year (based on intake); increasing the annual adoption, rescue and re-homing rates from the previous year; increasing spay and neuter surgeries from 500 to 700 to 1,000 over the next two years.
2. Encouraging increased enforcement and prosecution of existing laws for animal cruelty.
3. Raising public awareness about animal welfare through education.
4. Increasing financial support from the community and encouraging active responsible membership.
Adopting a friend
If you are interested in adopting, come to the Rutherford County Animal Control Facility and check out the many adoptable animals we have. We have many mixed-breed dogs and cats, and we very often also have pure-bred animals. We get new animals in daily, so check back often. If you are interested in something specific, leave your name and phone number with our volunteers and we will put you on our Wish List and call you if an animal comes in that matches your needs. Also, check out the animals listed on the adoptable page. If you are interested in any of the animals posted on the website, contact the person listed under the pet for more information.
