Our Featured Pet...

[DOTTIE]

Dottie is an adorable 2 year old female American Pitbull Terrier. She has been spayed, is current on vaccinations and heartworm preventative. Dottie is house trained and is one smart cookie. She is extremely loving with all people and children. She would be a great companion with another medium or larger sized dog or as an only dog (no small dogs or cats would probably be best). Dottie loves car rides, hiking, running, and long walks. She is an excellent sleeper during the night. She is NOT toy or food possesive. Dottie is a love bug and adores snuggling, and giving lots of kisses. She is a special girl who deserves a special home. NOTE: Dottie is URGENT! She can no longer stay in her current home due to unwarranted breed prejudice by their neighborhood and our local animal control. She needs a wonderful home ASAP where her life will no longer be in danger due to such ignorance.

News

We are currently working with The Healing Species (www.healingspecies.org) to gain grant money to start a Compassion/Character Education program in NC schools. Character Education teaches children compassion and responsibility, which are learned, rather than violence and indifference. Children who have experienced abuse or neglect learn that instead of continuing this cycle, they can heal their hearts and spirits by doing nice things for others--people and animals. They also come to realize that companion animals, like themselves, are not lives than can be neglected or mistreated. These children are the adults of a less-violent tomorrow, who will learn how to properly care for their animals today in order to minimize the problems of abuse, neglect, and overpopulation that our country is currently facing. Who We Are

NCARES is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization devoted to raising public awareness of the link between animal abuse and violence toward humans. We use humane education to break this cycle today in order to contribute to a less-violent society tomorrow. Other efforts include animal rescue, rescue transport, general humane education issues, as well as spay/neuter awareness.

Adopting a friend

In order to adopt an animal from NCARES, you will need to contact us to complete an adoption application. Most animals have a $75 adoption donation, but there are exceptions. Adoption donations may range from $75 to $300 depending on veterinary and other costs incurred for a particular animal. Check the petfinder ad for the particular animal you are interested in adopting to find out the adoption donation for that animal. With each adoption we also require a home-check, and will also check a personal reference and a veterinary reference. Once approved, all adopters must sign an adoption contract.

Before any animal is placed in his/her new home, the animal will be current on all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, and all dogs will be on heartworm preventative. The adoption contract that is signed states that the animal will be kept current on all vaccines, stay on heartworm preventive, and will be an indoor pet. We do not advocate outdoor dogs or cats and therefore we do not adopt to outdoor homes.
