Who We Are

We are a non-profit animal rescue group located in Western NC: about 45 minutes southwest of Asheville, NC and about 1/2 hour west of Hendersonville, NC.

Our Mission: Advocates for Animal Welfare

Our Vision Statement: To reduce the number of unwanted pets, as well as the incidence of animal abuse and neglect, in Transylvania County.

Our Primary Goals:

To decrease euthanasia by increasing pet adoptions,
To reduce numbers of unwanted animals by sponsoring spay/neuter inititatives,
To educate the general public about responsible pet care,
To recruit, enroll and train volunteers for these efforts,
To work together with the County government, and existing animal organizations, to meet the above goals.

Dog Day Afternoon fundraiser

Thank you to our sponsors Brevard Animal Hospital, Pet Stop Pet Fence and Spring Valley Farm Dog Care, for covering expenses for our last fundraiser so all proceeds can be used for veterinary expenses and spay/neuter assistance for the public.

We especially enjoyed presentations by our guest speakers:

Diane Samsel did a one hour workshop on Animal Communication,
Heide Coppotelli, PHD spoke on "Leadership for Your (Rescue) Dog",
Steve Metcalf, RPh informed us about "Veterinary Compounding of Meds",
and Clyde Brooks, DVM explored "Health Concerns for Your Older Pets".

Thank you all for your time and expertise!

Thank you to the individuals and local merchants who donated items for our Silent Auction and Door Prizes:

Adopting a friend

You will be asked to complete an adoption form so we can make a better match with you and your new pet. We ask for a $75.00 adoption fee which covers: spay/neuter, shots, boosters, worming, testing (dog and cat), and microchipping.

Will You Be a Foster Parent?

We will happily match you with an animal that fits into your home and lifestyle.

Fostering was largely responsible for the following statistics provided by Chuck Byrd, Chief Animal Control Officer for Transylvania County...

Adoption Rates for Transylvania County Animal Control:

November 2003: 16%
November 2004: 25%
November 2005: 33%

TAAG started adopting out shelter animals in mid-2004.

If you think that you have room in your heart to foster an animal, ask us some questions. There is no obligation, and it might be the most rewarding experience you've had in a while!

Volunteers monitor the voicemail. We do not have an office or a secretary, so please be patient and we will respond to your request if we believe we can help you. We offer financial assistance with spay/neuter and help with placing adoptable animals if we have room in one of our foster homes (we do not have a shelter).

We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and donations are tax deductible.

$75.00 pays for one spay/neuter, rabies shot and other essential vaccinations, as well as microchipping.
If you cannot adopt or foster, please donate this amount to sponsor one adoptable animal. Make your check payable to TAAG and put "vet fund" on the memo line.
