"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader, the center of his universe. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion. " Anonymous

Our Featured Pet . . Skippy Jon Jones

This is a courtesy post: SkippyJon Jones is an approximately 2 year old, 40 lb "pocket pitbull". He was pulled from the Wilson County Animal Shelter ; was found as a stray. Thin and underweight, his skin showed signs of abuse & possible aggressive interaction with other dogs, in other words, was possibly a bait dog. SkippyJon has been vetted, up to date on all vaccines, neutered , and on flea/tick .He is so very friendly! He loves to give kisses, cuddle, & have treats! Although he test Heartworm positive, he is being treated and will complete the regimen. Sweet SkippyJon as special needs he has high anxiety in many situations. If confined, and left alone, ( such as in a bedroom). Car rides are particularly stressful for SkippyJon. He panics in social situations such as doggie daycare; despite a solid routine of more than 3 months. His anxious symptoms include whining, yelping, screeching, scratching at doors, & excessive drooling. He does great with other friendly dogs (one at a time), is great with cats & children. SkippyJon requires a great deal of patience & TLC. As an indoor/outdoor , or on a farm where he could roam are optimal situations for him. To be in a home where someone has a great deal of time to help him feel secure & establish a routine. He is a challenging but sweet, lovable dog who has been through a lot. A responsible, experienced adopter, familiar with the breed, will be needed. A person with a lot of patience , and some training skills are optimal. Our worst fear would be if he was to fall into the wrong hands, and risk further abuse because of his behavioral issues. SkippyJon attends doggie day care, and is working on his socialization skills. On This Day...

I wish, For every dog searching trash cans for breakfast,
a filled bowl with his name printed in bright letters.
For every dog who slept fitfully last night, chained in a frozen yard,
a soft, warm bed with a person snoring gently nearby.
For every shelter dog, spending a Holiday morning in a soiled run,
a forever home, filled with sounds and smells of family.
For every "Holiday" puppy given today,
a tolerant, caring owner who won't abandon you as you grow into a real dog.
For every ailing pet,
enough money for your owner to pay the bills to make you well.
For every lost dog,
a clear, safe road, and well marked path, to lead you home.
For every old and tired friend,
a warm fire, and a soft bed, to ease your aches and pains. and
For every Heart Dog at the Bridge,
a moment . . . when you know that you are remembered today,
missed again, and loved forever.

Who we are

We are a group of local independant rescuers that pull from the local kill shelters located in Pender, New Hanover and surrounding counties.

Adopting a friend

Adopting a friend To adopt one of our rescues we will need to you to complete an adoption form. Please understand that a home visit and Vet references will be checked. We prefer local adoptions but will consider others according to the circumstances. Also understand we are very protective of our rescues because of their previous abuse, and we are all that is standing between them and more bad circumstances. All our dogs will be neutered/spayed before being adopted. Animals are vetted and ready for their forever homes.
