Who We Are
Beaufort County Animal Control is a county run agency responsible for enforcing State and Local animal control laws and ordinances. Part of the job of Beaufort County Animal Control is to educate the public about rabies, pet overpopulation and responsible pet ownership. It is required that all animals adopted from the shelter are spayed and neutered to help stop unwanted animals being born that would other wise add to the pet overpopulation problem.
Our Open to the Public Hours:
Monday - Friday l:00 pm - 5:30 pm and Saturday 11:00 am -3:00 pm
We are closed on holidays.
If you are coming to adopt or reclaim an animal please arrive by 5:00 pm Monday - Friday and 2:30 pm on Saturday, to allow time to do the necessary paperwork and routine vaccinations.
dogs/puppies
$55.00
cats/kittens
$35.00
The dog adoption fee includes, a $5 adoption fee, a $50 spay/neuter deposit, and it's first shot (not rabies). The cat adoption fee includes a $5 adoption fee, a $30 spay/neuter deposit, and it's first shot (not rabies). The spay/neuter deposit does not cover the total cost of the spay/neuter surgery, it is the responsibility of the person adopting the animal to pay the balance. If the person adopting an animal cannot afford the entire cost for the spay/neuter surgery, they may contact the Humane Society of Beaufort County for assistance, prior to making the appointment for surgery. If the newly adopted animal is taken to a local Veterinarian within the first 48 hours the animal will receive a free health exam.
The reclaim fee is $15.00 plus $5.00 per day after the first 24 hours.
Beaufort County is a small shelter that serves a large county. There are many animals housed at the shelter that are available for adoption, it is not possible to list all the animals and keep them for long periods of time. You are welcome to visit or call the shelter when you are looking for that special animal to make your family complete.
Beaufort County Animal Control is pleased to announce that we are now partnered with Craven County Correctional Institute in the "New Leash on Life Program". This program is designed to have inmates give shelter dogs basic training to help them become more adoptable. In the process the inmate aquires job training and education to assist them when they are released. We send 2 dogs at a time for an 8 week training program, the dogs will then graduate the program and hopefully be placed in their new forever home. While the dogs are in the program, Beaufort County Animal Control accepts Adoption Applications on them. Please contact us for more information on this program.
In the program now are:
Rascal and Max
Please see their information on our adoptable pet list.
They will graduate the program in July 27, 2011. Both are still available and looking for a forever home for when they graduate. Applications now being accepted. Rascal is a Black and Tan Pointer mix, and Max is a brown lab mix. Both are very sweet and loving.
We will be entering two more dogs in the program to begin thier training, at the end of this training, they are:
Bella and Scruffy
Please see their information on our adoptable pet list.
No animal can be held for adoption for any individual person. Animals are adopted on a first come first serve basis. We are a small rural county faculty, with a staff of only 4 people. Unfortunately, shipping or arranging transport of any animal is not an option for us.

Beaufort County Animal Control shelter always appreciates any and all types of donations.
The county has set up a way for the shelter to receive donations without the money going into the general operating fund. This money will be used for the county animals housed at the shelter.
Donations may be taken to the shelter, Beaufort County Administration or mailed to:
