WE ARE A SMALL, COUNTY FUNDED SHELTER. WE TRY TO KEEP ADOPTABLE ANIMALS AS LONG AS WE CAN BUT ALL OF OUR ANIMALS ARE SPACE DEPENDENT SO TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE TO GET THEM OUT OF HERE. WE WORK WELL WITH RESCUE GROUPS! WE DO NOT SHIP OUR ANIMALS! OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS ARE ALLOWED WITH AT LEAST ONE VETERINARY REFERENCE AND TWO PERSONAL REFERENCES. WE DO NOT ARRANGE FOR HEALTH CERTIFICATES. IF YOU NEED A HEALTH CERTIFICATE YOU WILL NEED TO ARRANGE TO HAVE ONE DONE AFTER YOU ADOPT THE ANIMAL. YOU MUST COME TO THE SHELTER AND PICK UP OR YOU MUST ARRANGE FOR TRANSPORT THROUGH A LOCAL RESCUE ORGANIZATION(S). WE DO NOT HAVE THE STAFF TO OVERSEE HEALTH CERTIFICATES OR TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS. WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE.

FYI-- IF YOU GPS/MAPQUEST/ GOOGLE OUR ADDRESS-- If coming from I-26, Weaverville/Marshall exit, Mapquest and Google will tell you to take the 1st Long Branch Rd, DO NOT TAKE THE FIRST LONG BRANCH RD OFF OF THE 4-LANE (unless you want to drive for a LONG time and see some pretty scenery!) Continue on the 4-lane until it turns into a 2-lane. You will quickly pass a Citgo station on your right hand side and then you will take the next road to your right. This will be the correct Long Branch Rd. We are the 3rd driveway on the left.

As a small community, we rely heavily on donations to take care of the animals entrusted to us. We have a very small budget and donations help us to give great care to our animals. Our wish list includes paper towels, dry cat and dog food, treats, toys for dogs and cats, kitty litter, garbage bags, cleaning supplies,(bleach, dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, etc...) office supplies ( copier paper, pens, penicls, staples, note pads, ect...). towels, blankets, galvanized steel feed pans and buckets, and gift cards to places such as Walmart, Sam's, and Tractor Supply. If you would like to donate any of the products on our wish list, please drop by our facility or contact us.

Who We Are

Madison County Animal Services is located in the Beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Our address is 389 Long Branch Road, Marshall, NC 28753. Although we are a rural county of about 25,000 we have a variety of cats, dogs and sometimes exotic or farm animals for adoption. We are dedicated to finding permanent, loving homes for these homeless pets. We take all animals brought to us: strays, wild dogs, feral cats, and personal pets. We are county operated and have a staff of caring individuals that try to do their best for each and every animal. So, if you are looking for a pet we can help match you with the perfect friend who will fit your lifestyle. Our shelter hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 am till 4:30 pm, Saturday from 10:00 am till 2:00 pm an we are closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Adopting a friend

Our adoption fee is $85.00 and includes: 30 days of ShelterCare Pet Insurance, at least one round of vaccinations, microchipping, spay/neuter, and at least one round of treatment for deworming. Most local vets will provide a shelter adoption exam free of charge. We have placed countless animals into happy, loving homes and with the petfinder website the numbers are growing! Please browse our adoptable animals list and if you don't find exactly what you are looking for, feel free to contact us, we may have it or know who does!
