We are open for adoptions Monday - Friday 11:00am-5:00pm and the first Saturday of the month 10:00am-2:00pm.

When you adopt a dog from Animal Control, your new pet will be able to receive eight (8) weeks of obedience classes for a discounted fee of $25.00 from a local professional trainer.
Please remember to spay or neuter your pet. Sadly, not all animals can be adopted; there are just too many. Please help prevent pet overpopulation and euthanasia. Call us at 704 922-8677 to learn about Gaston County's low cost spay/neuter program.
Who We Are
The Gaston County Department of Animal Control was established to provide for the health and safety of citizens and protect them from animals and the threat of animals. The mission of Animal Control is not only to enhance the safety of citizens, but also to ensure the proper care and treatment of animals. This is accomplished through animal-related services which reflect our professionalism and a concern for responsible pet ownership. One such service is the Pet Adoption Program. Animal Control became a Division of the County Police Department on September 18, 1995.
Adopting a friend
In an effort to promote the adoption of healthier animals and to help reduce the number of unwanted litters, area veterinarians, the Gaston Humane Society and Animal Control have joined to support an adoption-medical contract to achieve these goals. Selective dogs and cats are available for an adoption fee of $75.00 for dogs and $60.00 for cats. Pets will receive specific health services, including spay or neutering, from a local participating veterinarian of your choosing.
Available on a first come - first serve basis, the pets above are available for adoption. On the chance that these may no longer be available, Animal Control staff encourages anyone interested in adopting a pet to come by the Animal Shelter and view all available adoption pets. Pets can be adopted during regular operating hours: Monday - Friday 11:00am-5:00pm

Adoption Procedures:
Pets are adopted under an adoption-medical contract which includes a physical examination, DHLP and parvo vaccination for dogs, FVRCP vaccination for cats, worm check and worming for dogs, rabies vaccination, heartworm check for dogs, county license, and mandatory spay or neuter. Veterinarians that participate in the program are: All Creatures Pet Hospital, Applewood Veterinary Hospital, Carolina Cat Clinic, Cherryville Animal Hospital, Crossroads Animal Hospital, Dickson Animal Clinic, Eastridge Animal Hospital, Forestbrook Animal Healthcare, Gaston Veterinary Hospital, Lineberger Veterinary Hospital, Phillips Animal Medical Hospital, South Point Pet Hospital, The Pet Hospital,Wilkinson Animal Hospital, and Veterinary Home Care.
Animal Control delivers the adopted pet to the Veterinarian Clinic of choice, and the adopter picks their pet up at the veterinarian's office.

We are located at 220 Leisure Lane, in Dallas, North Carolina. From I-85, take exit 17, to Hwy 321 North, to Hwy 279 West (Cherryville), turn right at light, go through 3 traffic signals, turn left onto Leisure Lane beside Gaston County Agricultural Center, shelter is located on right, across the street from the tennis courts, inside Biggerstaff Park.
