About Us
Our adoption fee is $175.00 (tax-detuctible) which includes all vaccinations, spaying/neutering and that our dogs are on heart worm prevention. The requirements for adoption include that the dog would live in the home as part of the family and will never be chained, left on a "runner" or left in the outdoors to roam freely without supervision or a fenced in area.
Adoptions are handled by THE MAGGIE SOCIETY, a volunteer force that aids in the adoption process for various groups, including For the Love of Dogs. Call or text 252-292-6305 or email themaggiesociety@yahoo.com for an adoption application today!
“For the Love of Dogs” a canine rescue, rehabilitation and wellness clinic was opened January 2004 by Drs. Max and Della Fitzgerald and other concerned members of the community after seeing that the needs of animals in the Wilson County area were not being met. Since then they have worked tirelessly to better the quality of life and continue to be the voices for the humane treatment of animals. The “FLOD” organization has been dedicated to providing quality medical and personal care to stray, abandoned and surrendered animals in their program. This dedication represents great amounts of love, time and cost. This is a non-profit shelter and clinic and does not receive any money from the state or federal government. The facility relies completely on donations from the community as well as animal lovers afar who have crossed paths and made both large and small contributions from the heart, usually in the name of a particular dog with which they have made a connection. Any TAX-DEDUCTIBLE donations are greatly appreciated. Monetary donations are essential to offer needed care to these animals.
Visits are by appointment only as the volunteers are really busy taking care of the doggies. Please call or text THE MAGGIE SOCIETY @ 252-292-6305 or email themaggiesociety@yahoo.com .
