Please make sure all dogs are on a leash; leave cats at home, but bring photos. For more information, call Veronica at (828) 586-5647.

Who We Are

Since 1978, ARF volunteers have worked with the county shelter and the community to rescue animals, pay for routine and emergency care, and place them in responsible homes. ARF volunteers foster animals in their homes, and our expenses are paid for by tax-deductible donations and adoption fees. ARF also provides access to low-cost spay/neuter. We welcome those interested in placing animals through ARF; however, your animal must be spayed or neutered, and you must agree to foster the animal until it is placed.

Adopting a friend

Jackson County Humane Society (ARF) charges $60 for any pet. This fee partially covers the spay, neuter, vaccines, and rabies vaccine(if the pet is old enough) as well as other care, sometimes extensive, that the animal has received. All adult cats are tested for leukemia; for kittens, one out of each litter is tested. Adoptive owners must be interviewed and sign a contract guaranteeing that their animal will receive good care, including medical care.

Please contact us if you are looking for a specific pet. ARF has many more animals than those featured here; we also maintain a network of people in the community who wish to place their pets. ARF will not place animals that have not been spayed or neutered.

Come Visit Us!

We set up under the Moody's tent at the Ingles in Sylva, NC every Saturday from at least 1 to 3 PM (longer if the weather is nice). Get direction from your location. You can also view some of our cats at the Pet Stop at 516 Mill Street in Sylva (828-586-1155). The Pet Stop is open 7 days a week.

Read more about us at our web site or email us for more information about the pets we have, or about getting low-cost spay or neuter for your own pet.
