"Please adopt us! We were found living and starving under a house in West Charlotte!"

Who We Are
We have been saving lives one day at a time since 1938. Up until 7 years ago, we were primarily a humane education organization, but in 2000, we began focusing our efforts on helping to solve the tremendous problem of pet over population in Mecklenburg County and surrounding counties to help reduce the numbers of animals entering Animal Control facilities.
To accomplish this we implemented S.N.I.P. - our Spay Neuter Intervention Program for pets of qualified pet owners. Over this time, we have spayed/neutered hundreds of animals in low-income households. When fully funded, this program will not only drastically reduce the numbers of animals entering Animal Control, it will reduce the number of animals euthanized at this facility. We originally wanted to concentrate on reducing the euthanasia numbers in Mecklenburg County, but there is no other organization like ours that helps those in low income and we continue to get calls from every county surrounding Mecklenburg as well as more farther away. We help as many as we can afford to help, but our funding is never enough to help every call we get for help. If you want to see your donation make an immediate difference in helping to stop overpopulation, please donate to SNIP. There is a PayPal link on our main web site which is: www.spcaalliance.com
Our organization does not operate a shelter and our mission is not to foster....it is to spay and neuter as many animals whose owners cannot afford to do so. We occasionally take in fosters as funding allows, but do not want to lose our focus on stopping the pet overpopulation problem where it begins. Over 80% of the animals that wind up at Animal Control come from low income homes.
If you have found an animal and would like help finding a good home for it, please allow us to post some photos and a bio of the animal and we will help you screen applicants to ensure the animal is appropriately matched to a wonderful home. We reserve the right to deny adoption applications for any reason as our interest lies with what is in our animals' best interest.
Important
In FY2007, 19,251 animals came into the Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Control. Of these, 12,520 had to be euthanized because there were simply not enough people coming in to adopt them. In fact, only 3,935 animals were adopted and 1,999 were lost pets reclaimed by their owners.
Adopting a friend
A large part of our mission is to help increase the number of animal adoptions at Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Control Bureau so homeless animals don't have to be euthanized. Their shelter is located at: 8315 Byrum Drive, Charlotte, NC 28217, which is near the airport off Billy Graham and West Boulevard. You can also get there off Tyvola past the coliseum. Please look for the blue and white signs.
By adopting a shelter animal you are saving a life. Visit the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Control web site
Please note that only a few of the animals available at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Control shelter are placed on their web site. They simply don't have enough staff to keep up with the web site with as many animals that come into their shelter each day. Depending on the time of year, they get in 30-150 animals in each day and they don't have room for all of them. It's best to go there in person so you can see ALL of the animals that are in desperate need of a permanent home. Please don't wait to adopt, but be sure you have the time and finances to own a pet. The last thing a homeless animal needs is to be adopted into a home and then given away again because their new owner didn't plan ahead.
