Saturday is Adoption Day. The public is offered space in the Thrift Store to show off pets needing new homes who are still with their current owners. Pets brought in for Adoption Day must be current on vaccinations, including rabies. (NC Law requires all pets 4 months and older be vaccinated for rabies.) Please bring all medical records, including vaccination certificates. If you have a pet you would like to bring in for Adoption Day, please contact THS Thrift Store before bringing him in!

Who We Are
Transylvania Humane Society is a private, non-profit, animal rescue organization. THS also operates a thrift store that resales donated goods. Donations are greatly appreciated and needed at this time! (Donations need to be in good, clean, working condition!)
*Currently we are only able to house a couple small dogs at a time, and about 6 cats* We have been taking animals out of the Transylvania County Animal Shelter, and the NUMBER of animals(mostly dogs) in the local shelter is alarming!!! Please, if you are interested in Medium-Large sized dogs--check the local shelter! Too many are being euthanized each week!
The Mission of Transylvania Humane Society shall be to serve as a private, non-profit organization within Transylvania County and is currently working to:
Provide shelter and rehabilitation to animals in need
Spay/Neuter all cats and dogs in Transylvania County
Protect all animals from acts of cruelty and neglect
Promote humane care and concern for animals by educating the public
Work for the passage and enforcement of laws which promote and provide for the humane treatment of animals
Share our blessings with humans where and whenever we can, in ways that do not reduce our ability to help animals.
We're HOWLIN' out for Volunteers!
We are in desperate need of voluteers! We need volunteers to help foster dogs (PLEASE HELP!). We also need voluteers to help in the thrift store, this would also include volunteers who could help with donation pick ups (by providing a truck).
Is Fostering For You?
Foster Care is greatly needed right now! THS is seeking persons available to foster animals (mainly dogs). Foster care allows THS to temporarily place an animal in a home while it awaits adoption. Foster homes must be able to provide transportation of the animal to and from the Thrift Store for adoption days. THS will provide food, collars, leashes, crates, transportation carriers and vet care. Foster Care provides a temporary home, love and care while the animal awaits adoption. Please! Adopting a friend
In order to adopt from THS, you must: Provide valid ID Be atleast 18 years or older Have permission from Landlord (if applicable) Agree to Adoption Conditions We require an application for adoption be submitted, it will be reviewed and an adoption counselor will be provided to help with the adoption agreement. All new owners receive a 4-5 lb. bag of Science Diet Pet Food, and a complete adoption packet filled with coupons, new pet owner tips and a dvd!
