Our Featured Pet...
Please see our "adoptables" page as all the buns are so special.
News
May 6, we will be at Lucky's Pet Resort for an adoption event. We will have several of our bunnies there. There will be dozens of other rescue events there and some vendors! Please come and see us! On May 13, we will be at the Ceiner Woods Ford Adoptathon. Please come see us there also!!!
This year has been tough for us here at RRT. We have been inundated with calls of unwanted bunnies and stray bunnies. If you are unable to help with fostering or donating supplies maybe donating just a few bucks to help pay off our vet bill would be a wonderful way to participate and we would surely appreciate any donations.
DONATIONS:
****We are in desperate need of donations right now. We have a sick bunny and very limited resources. If you are able, a donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated. We thank you for your support.
Rabbit Rescue of the Triad will only be taking in a very limited number of rabbits to house here and in our limited foster homes. It was a very difficult decision but one that was unpreventable. We will be happy to list your rabbit for adoption on our website if you can no longer keep him/her. Please be prepared to email us a good photograph and also a short bio about your bunny. We are also happy to provide potential bunny adopters with free rabbit care information and answer questions that they might have.
The animal shelters in our area also take in a large number of bunnies so please check with them too. Most shelters will now spay or neuter the bunnies before adoption which is absolutely necessary. They have a nominal adoption fee but please be sure to educate yourself on the proper care of house rabbits. Feel free to email us for this information and for referrals to qualified rabbit vets in the area.
Many people who bought a bunny as an Easter gift have realized they don't want the responsibility. Please check with your local animal shelter to see if they have any bunnies in need and above all PLEASE get your rabbits spayed or neutered!!!!! Contact us for information on where you can get your rabbit altered safely and inexpensively.
Our shelter stays full with shelter rescues. If you need information on re-homing your pet bunny, please go to the House Rabbit Society website at www.rabbit.org They have some great suggestions on re-homing as well as some wonderful articles on making things work out for you and your bunny. If you are willing to foster your pet until a home can be found, please contact us.
Who We Are
Rabbit Rescue of the Triad is a small, not-for-profit group whose purpose is to educate the public about the wonderful house-pets that rabbits make. We support the National House Rabbit Society and encourage everyone to check out their excellent website at www.rabbit.org We also take in a limited number of needy/homeless rabbits for adoption into indoor homes only. This is done on a very small scale as our space is limited and we generally work off a waiting list. All rabbits that are taken in will be examined by a veterinarian to assess their health and spayed or neutered before adoption. We do require a minimum donation of $80 for females and $70 for males to help offset the cost of veterinary care, food, housing, hay, and vegetables. Bunnies are also litter trained.
Adopting a friend
If you are looking for a bunny to keep outside you are in the WRONG place. We only adopt to indoor pet homes. All bunnies are spayed/neutered prior to placement. In order to adopt one of our bunnies, you will first need to return a completed copy of our adoption contract. Please contact me via email for an adoption application (rabbitrescue@bellsouth.net)(sarahcrowder@northstate.net) Once your application has been reviewed, we will contact you to set up a visit. We do require a *minimum* donation of $62 for females and $50 for males to help offset the cost of veterinary care, hay, food and litter. The minimum amounts cover the cost of a spay or neuter. All bunnies are spayed or neutered and are to be kept indoors only. We also highly recommend that potential adopters thoroughly read the articles at the House Rabbit Society's website, www.rabbit.org as well as reading the book "House Rabbit Handbook" by Marinell Harriman. It is available for under $10 through the HRS website or at Amazon.com. Bunnies can be wonderful, loving companions but are not the pet for everyone (especially young children) and we encourage you to read and learn as much as you can before you decide to adopt ANY pet.
Why Adopt Over A Petstore Purchase?
There are many important reasons to choose us over a petstore. Many petstores get there bunnies from "rabbit mills" for profit. By buying there you support this dangerous practice. All of our bunnies are from homes or are found abandoned. Also many petstores get bunnies in that are too young. They mostly arrive at the petstore when they are about 4 weeks old. This means that they loose about 1 month of irreplacable nursing with their mother. Another mistake petstores make is keeping their bunnies on cedar shavings. It has been proven in many studies that keeping bunnies and other animals low to the ground on these shavings is detrimental to their respiratory systems. They inhale dust fibers from the cedar and it accumulates in their lungs. Most bunnies end up with lung problems later in life. Our bunnies, while in our care, are always on accepted litters. When you adopt from us, you have the advantage of always having someone standing by at any time if you run into problems, need tips, or have questions. We don't simply send you on your way without information . Also, most of our rabbits have been looked at by a vet who specializes in exotics. An exotics vet specializes in animals like rabbits who have very different ways of behaving than dogs and cats. If the rabbit hasn't had a chance to be seen by our specialist then we can put you in contact with him. All of our bunnies are also spayed/neutered. We are trying to do our part to not add to the already huge amount of homeless bunnies.
