Who We Are

Second Time Around Aussie Rescue, Inc. is a nationwide and Canadian program to help place Australian Shepherds into loving, caring and permanent homes. We rescue only purebred Aussies, with good temperaments for family living. We do not place dogs for any breeding purposes whatsoever, nor for any type of guard duty. Our program dogs will only be placed into carefully screened homes and approved service careers using a uniform set of rules and procedures by everyone involved in the program.

Second Time Around Aussie Rescue, Inc. is also dedicated to educating the public and all Aussie owners of the unique temperament, proper placement and proper, ethical breeding practices of the versatile Australian Shepherd. Our goal is to achieve the day that rescue of the Australian Shepherd is no longer needed.

This site is operated by volunteers in the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, Arkansas and Tennesse. If you live in another state, we can direct you to the Aussie Rescuer closest to you. That person may work with Second Time Around Aussie Rescue, Inc. or one of a number of other Aussie Rescue organizations in the US and Canada. Other STAAR sites may appear as volunteers are found to help maintain them.

Adopting a friend

People who apply to adopt a dog through Second Time Around Aussie Rescue, Inc. must complete an extensive screening process, explaining why they want an Australian Shepherd, how they plan to care for the dog, and what kind of home they will provide. When our rescue volunteer receives an application, it is screened for approval. Applicants for dogs may be declined if the rescue volunteer feels they cannot provide a suitable home for an Aussie.

When adopting a dog that is in our foster care, Second Time Around Aussie Rescue, Inc. does ask for a donation. These donations enable us to continue rescuing and placing Aussies. Second Time Around Aussie Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit public benefit corporation and run solely by donation. Dogs who are not in our foster care but are in our listings from private owners, will be placed for free. The owners may only ask for the cost of spaying or neutering the dog in order to be eligible for our listings. (Only spayed or neutered dogs are in our listings.) Donations to Second Time Around Aussie Rescue, Inc. are appreciated and are tax deductible.

If you are interested in a particular dog, feel free to contact the rescue volunteer whose name appears with that dog's biography.

People wishing to adopt a dog through our program may also use an online adoption application. When the adoption application is filled out and submitted, the application will then be forwarded or mailed to the rescue volunteer closest to you. That rescue volunteer will contact you directly to get any further information necessary to help us help you find the right dog. Come Visit Us! WE ARE NOT A SHELTER, ALL OUR ANIMALS ARE FOSTERED IN PRIVATE HOMES. ARRANGEMENTS TO MEET A PARTICULAR DOG ARE MADE AFTER WE HAVE RECEIVED AND APPROVED YOUR ADOPTION APPLICATION.
