Who We Are

Friends of Pete is a network of foster families and animal lovers who provide an alternative to the shelter experience. Interested adopters or potential foster parents will fill out an application, provide a vet reference, and may be asked for a home visit. Adoption fees include a round of shots and spaying or neutering: $75 for dogs under 50 pounds, $100 for 50 pounds or more.

We take our name from Mississippi writer Willie Morris and his famous black llab, Pete, a dog so special that he is reportedly buried in Oxford's cemetery alongside generals, members of Congress, and William Faulkner.

Adopting a friend

Friends of Pete will do our best to match any person, no matter the location, with some of our animal friends. We'll still check you out thoroughly, however.

Since we have no central facilities, we always need foster families to help us give temporary homes to dogs in need until an adopter can be found. If you're interesting in fostering a Friend, or if you've already given shelter to a lost dog and would like to add him or her to the Friends of Pete adoptable pet list, contact us. We'll take it from there.
