Who We Are

APEA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that relies on donations and fundraisers to operate. We are currently in operation in both Alabama and Mississippi. Our mission is to promote the humane treatment of all animals, eliminate pet overpopulation, provide public education regarding animal care and welfare, protect the animals placed in our care, and to seek responsible homes for the animals that can be adopted.

Adopting a friend

APEA provides vet care for all pets before placing them in their adoptive homes. All vaccinations are up to date at the time of the adoption and all pets are spayed or neutered before going home with their new family. The only exception is if the pet is too young at the time of the adoption, at which time, an appointment is made by APEA for the pet when it is old enough. Most of our babies are altered by the time they are four months old. No adoption is final until the pet has been spayed or neutered. The adoption fee for dogs and puppies is only $85. The adoption fee for our cats and kittens is only $50. Adoption requirements include: Completion of adoption application. Vet reference and/or personal reference. Home visit by APEA volunteer or by another rescue volunteer if adopter lives too far away. Adoption fee. APEA takes all pets back who do not, for some reason or another, work out in the adoptive home.
