Who We Are
St. Francis Animal Sanctuary (SFAS) began in 2000 when Pam Perez and Heidi Krupp, along with others that shared their love of animals, began working with Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. Over the next two years, Pam, Heidi, and the newly appointed SFAS Board of Directors worked to get SFAS up and running. By the Fall of 2002, Heidi was living on the property, in temporary housing, and SFAS officially opened its doors and the first animals started arriving.
In 2005, after the devastation of Katrina, we partnered with Best Friends Animal Society in order to help save animals left behind in the aftermath of the hurricane. Our organizations worked together on St. Francis grounds for 9 months after the hurricane and saved 4000 lives. Many of our supporters have moved away, some temporarily and some permanently. We continue to work with the Gulf Region to help them regain their independance again.
