Our Featured Pet...

Although all of our dogs are featured pets, we do want to call attention to one special boy at this time. It's not that Anthony is really a special needs boy, he is just special. Some time ago, Anthony injured one of his ears and a hemotoma resulted. He had the surgery and regular treatment, but he developed abnormally heavy scar tissue when it healed. This caused Anthony to shake his ear and tilt his head to the side. When it became apparent this was a permanent condition, the veterinarian suggested he would be more comfortable if part of the ear were amputated. After this surgery, indeed, Anthony has been happier and has seemed to be much more comfortable. This boy is beautiful from inside out, and nothing can distract from his overall beauty. He will make a wonderful pet and he is ready for his forever family to adopt him. Anthony is the absolute sweetest guy ever. It's hard to describe what a good boy he is. For more information or to request an adoption application, please email route66rescue@yahoo.com . Thank you for visiting our site. Please come back often. This little boy is a real gem and deserves the best. It will be a lucky forever family who adopts Anthony.

Who We Are

We rescue in memory of companion animals who have died alone in a shelter, on the streets, or in pain without a loving family to mourn the loss. Our mission is to change the world for as many dogs as we can and to place discarded, unloved, homeless canines in loving forever homes. If you would like more information or would like an adoption application, please email. route66rescue@yahoo.com . If you are looking for a family member and don't find him/her on our website, request an adoption application and tell us what you are looking for. We work with many rescues and shelters who may have your dog waiting for you. The requirements will be the same. We only adopt to inside homes and dogs may not be allowed to roam. All will be spay/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested, and references and a home visit may be required. Email us at route66rescue@yahoo.com . Route 66 Rescue Inc. is dedicated to saving dogs in SW MO who would otherwise die on the streets or in high-kill shelters. Our goal is to build a no-kill shelter to have a safe, happy place for these dogs to stay until their forever families adopt them. It will be a sanctuary for life, for dogs who are not adopted. If you can help us build the shelter please contact us at route66rescue@yahoo.com, and to donate please send to Route 66 Rescue, Inc. P.O. Box 335, Nixa, MO 65714-0335. Thank you for being part of Helping the Homeless.

Adopting a friend

Our dogs are very important to this rescue. They will be adopted only as inside dogs. All are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on shots, wormed, and heartworm tested. They are adopted to homes with fenced yards only, unless they will be walked on a leash and never tied outside. The dogs come from diverse backgrounds. Some have been beloved pets who are now without a home because their forever mom or dad has passed away or is, for another reason, unable to care for them. Some have been tossed from one temporary place to another. Some have never had a home. Some have had nothing but love and tender care, others have had few kind words before they came to us. A few have suffered abuse. All dogs in our care must be accepted as they are, and their new forever families must give them the time they need to become all they can be. Some will need training, others will surprise their new family with their tricks and manners. Some will be full of kisses and fun and others will be afraid of any show of affection. Love and acceptance will work wonders for all. Please accept our dogs for what they are and give them the life they deserve.
