Due to health, personal and family issues we had made the decision not to renew our license. We will not be accepting any new pets until or if we decide to renew the license.
Something Special Castaways is a small foster based Missouri Non Profit, Licensed Rescue. We were founded by myself Carolyn Hadley, Susan Turturice and Komiko Hadley.
Carolyn: I have been rescueing things since I was big enough to drag something home. I spent several years volunteering for an extremely busy rural shelter and dabbling in rescue on my own. It was about 6yrs ago while volunteering for the shelter that I "met" Susan when she email me to step up and help us get 3 senior labs to a wonderful rescue in St. Louis..... we have worked together almost daily ever since.
Susan: Susan has also been involved in rescue her whole life. She has a passion for the senior labs and has had many live their golden years with she and her husband in their home in Michigan. Susan is in my opinion, the QUEEN of transport coordination. I think she could move a dog across the planet if we needed her to. She does all of our transport coordination, not just for our own rescue but for several of our partner rescues as well as individual requests.
Komiko: She is my daughter... She was not always the crazy animal person she is now... I remember she used to complain... "oh mom... why did you bring another dog home" Now she is the one dragging animals home and is always the first to yell stop the car when she see's some poor dumped dog. She handles our foster applications for the most part and also works on adoption applications. She is our voice of reason.
Our adoption fees range from $75 to $250, depending on the dog and required medical care. We have increased the fee of our giant breed adoptions to $175 to $250 due to the increased pricing of our vet fees associated with the additional poundage of the animal. This fee includes the following:
We may on occasion, ask for a higher adoption fee depending upon whether extensive medical care was required in order to help defray the cost of those additional expeditures.
