SHSE was founded to rescue and rehabilitate strays, abandoned pets and pets from small town shelters where an animal's options are very limited. We do not have a physical shelter which limits the number of animals we can accept. Each rescue is placed in a foster home for evaluation and care and offered for adoption when healthy and ready for a new family. They stay in foster care until a home is found, no matter how long it takes. All our animals are placed through mobile adoptions or the Internet.
Through our rescue efforts we hope to improve the public's understanding of why people have an obligation to spay and neuter their pets therefore reducing the great numbers of homeless pets that are filling the shelters and being euthanized on a daily basis.
Prior to placement our pets are tested for FeLV/FIV (cats), heartworm (dogs), vaccinated, wormed, kept on flea preventative and spayed or neutered. Animal care is expensive and although the adoption fees help, most of our costs are funded through donations. Any contributions are appreciated.
