We are pleased with the great response we have gotten from Petfinder.com. We have been able to place even more pets into loving forever homes than before. This allows up to have space open up to continue rescuing more and more. In 2009 we were able to place 174 animals in forever loving homes! In 2010 we far surpassed the prior year with 209 adoptions!! We can only hope to keep up the great work and keep increasing our adoption numbers each year! Thank you to all who have adopted from us, we are forever in your debt.
ALL ABOUT US
Judy’s Forgotten Jewells is a 501(c) 3 non-profit Animal Rescue, operating in St. Louis, MO and surrounding areas. We are based out of Jewell Animal Hospital in South St. Louis. We are a small facility that specializes in dog, puppy, cats, and kitten adoptions! Due to the size of our facility we do not have a walk through shelter for viewing our available animals. We ask that all potential adopters view our website and call ahead to schedule an appointment. When calling to schedule an appointment please have the name of the animal you would like to meet available!
HOW WE GOT STARTED
We are a veterinary hospital that started a kitten adoption program that has blossomed into dogs, puppies and senior cats and dogs. Seniors are one of our favorites. We want to do our part to help find forever loving homes for as many pets as we can. Our adoption program started as a way for the staff to bond and spread a little love as well. Our adoptees are pulled from local animal controls where the euthanasia rates are extremely high. We have clients and local school children who volunteer to walk our adoptees. The staff is our doctor's veterinary support staff. We have had donations of supplies and money from many of our loyal clients and neighbors and even from large vendors such as Purina! We are also complimented on what wonderful loving and socialized pets we have. They are loved and socialized daily by everyone in the hospital.
Each pet receives a complete physical exam by our doctor and any medical issues are addressed. Each pet is up to date on vaccines, dewormed, on flea and heartworm prevention, and has been microchipped. If age appropriate they are spayed/neutered and if not old enough an appointment will be scheduled to do this. There are no exceptions on spaying or neutering. We will make every effort to assure that this is done and will follow up with the adoptive parents until it is. Our contract requires that every animal that left our rescue unaltered must be brought back by six months of age to have the procedure completed! We do offer an optional declaw on our kittens. If you choose a kitten that has not received surgery yet and do not want to declaw them, that is your choice. We offer this declaw as an option for owners who have potentially destructive kittens that if not declawed they would be reintroduced into a shelter situation in the future! We do everything in our power to ensure that every adoptee is placed in its forever home!
We are complemented regularly about how socialized our babies are, especially our kittens. We have had many adopters return for another new family member or bring a friend in to adopt one of our babies. While here visiting you may even see some of our past adoptees come through the door with their new owners, as many choose to return to our hospital for regular veterinary care and checkups!

OUR ADOPTION PROCESS
Once you find a pet that you are interested in adopting you will need to fill out one of our adoption applications. You can request an application via e-mail or by stopping by our office! We will review your application and check your references as well as speak with your current veterinarian. If this is your first pet and do not have a veterinarian you will need to provide us with a veterinarian's name that you have spoken with prior to the adoption about providing medical care for your new pet. After approval and signing of the adoption contract you may take your new forever friend home after we take a picture first for our memory book!
Most of our adopters come from our clients or by internet searches. We communicate with our lookers mostly by email. We may take a day or two to return your message.
